Vacation Trip in April Oahu & Maui

We're in Oahu April 13-19 (arrive late on 12th).

We also are arriving on the 13th. We're flying over from Kauai where we're spending the week before. Not sure how much we plan to dive other than we (my traveling buddy and me) know we'll dive at some point. The only thing we really have to work around is visiting Pearl Harbor with our wives and we may try to find some good snorkeling also.

We're being blasted by what they call a "Colorado low", which just dumped a foot of snow on eastern Canada.

We're just below you on the map (Indiana) so be sure and keep that stuff up there!! The cold temps here are enough.

Give us a shout if you are looking to set up some dives here on Oahu.

Will be in touch. We're staying at the Ilikai which I believe is pretty close to you.

Regarding temps, we dove in Kona in the month of Feb. and the temp was around 75º. I wore a 3mm full wetsuit and was comfortable. I expect in April that temps around the other islands would be 76+ish.

Update on current water temps....... did 6 dives this weekend and was at 73 on the deeper dives and 74 on the shallows. Whales and dolphins EVERYWHERE!!!!

I usually dive dry in our local waters, but I have a one piece 3 mm full wetsuit that I use in the Caribbean. Is that adequate?

Hi Mike,

I've had the opportunity to dive Oahu 3 times and Maui once. The water temps have varied from the low-mid 70s to the high-mid 70s. I was most comfortable in my full 5 mm and put on my hooded vest a few times. I generally dived multiple days and often 4 times/day. You may be just fine in your 3 mm, perhaps take along a hood or hooded vest in case you get cold.

I also stayed in Honolulu when on Oahu. My favorite dives on Oahu were the Sea Tiger, YO-257 and San Pedro, Kewalo Pipe and Turtle Canyons. We stayed in Kaanapali while on Maui. My favorite sites on Maui included several sites off Lanai, Mala Pier, and Molokini, especially Reef's End and Back Wall.

My trips to Oahu were business, so I did not have time to explore when I was not diving. I had much more time on Maui and there so many things to do, Haleakala, Hana and hike to falls, Iao Valley and Needle, helicopter tour, beaches...

Thank you "scubadada" for the dives & things to do suggestions. Mid 70's water temp no problem is no problem for me. I'm used to diving in mid 40-50's (dry though). I expect to be only diving once or twice a day max.
My wife & I will be snorkelling together, & she just has a 3 mm shorty.

Just got back from visiting our daughter in Oahu . Went to Maui for a week as well .
No diving but did the whale watching / snorkeling trip and it was great to Molokini
crater . The Whales are everywhere this time of the year as it is mating season !

Some tips on good snorkeling in the area would be great too.
We'll be arriving April 19 around noon, then driving to the Hotel.

Had a nice dive this morning with Scuba Steve. He's a great guide , layed back & super guy to talk & dive with. If you're in the Lahaina - Kaanopali area, I recommend Steve Eady.

This morning we dived off Kahekili Beach Park, about 10 minutes drive north of whalers village,Kaanopali. Current was quite swift, no not a problem for us. Steve brought Tusa scooters ( I nicked named crotch thrusters) We cruised a large area down to about 40 ft.
