I am planning to get a BP/W for my first BC, and I was kinda thinking of taking AOW this coming summer. I wanna use the long hose + bungeed octo setup, but I was wondering if this would be a problem during AOW training. I was thinking back to my OW training, and I was thinking about it since some of the stuff isn't really what they teach, like the bungeed octo. Has anyone had this situation, or had a problem with their instructor because of this?

My AOW instructor said it was fine that I had my snorkel in my pocket, just like her...

It shouldn't be a problem, but I'd ask about it before you sign up. If the instructor has an issue, find another instructor.

Took my AOW (PADI) in a BP/W (no long hose though) and had no issue. I am sure you can clear it with the Instructor certainly do it befor money changes hands. It is amazing how opinions change when it could keep funds from comming to the LDS/DI's way :)

I took Rescue in a BP/W and long hose. I stuck my snorkel where my backup light would normally go, and it stayed out of my way and met requirements.

In talking with my favorite PADI instructors I was told I had to have a snorkel on me (and in my BC pocket met the requirment). From the getgo I didn't have any problems with donating my primary -- but then I was using an AirSource!

Ditto.

I am doing the same actually may dives are next weekend. My instuctor actually wants me to wear my BP/W and long hose instead of my Zeagle. He wants the divers to see the many different ways you can dive and the many differnt styles of gear. He was told me that I should be ready to answer a few question on my set up. Benfits and drawbacks of every way to dive.

It's not a problem. I teach in bp/w with long hose and bungied 2nd reg. Unfortunately, some instructors will have issues with it.

Over the course of my AOW class we had 2 instructors (both in BP/W), 2 DMC's (both in BP/W) and 3 students (2 of which had a BP/W).

It really shouldn't be an issue. :)

i just had my first dive on my new bp/w rig and it was my 6th dive ever.

it was absolutly great and it was my first bc. i would recomend it to anybody. and as far as classes, just like previously said, if they have a problem find a new instructor.

it was my OW instructor and the divemaster who got me on this whole idea. have fun!!
