So, we should only trust the coup censored Honduran media, right?
Fact: Last year the OAS cited Zelaya's government for media suppression and the murder of journalists in Honduras.

That's your paragon of media freedoms? :coffee:

Ridiculous post,
There are actually very few business owners or tourist related people in this thread. I have read the Honduran Constitution, Have you? article 239 and 374 spell it out for you.

I Basically spelled it out for Agilufo and DD in the Political thread and then i guess they gave up when I had shown how wrong they were so they came here

Hmmm. I don't think I said that these peoples were posting on this forum. However, many of the posts are indicating that they are receiving their information from these people. As far as I can tell, you do appear to have a personal interest in tourism on the island however based on your own web site. I hardly see how my opinion is ridiculous. In addition, my point was that people for the most part are expressing their opinions and don't know all of the facts. Even people living on the island don't know all the facts. I certainly don't know all the facts. I never claimed to be a constitutional expert in the US let alone Honduras. This is a very complex situation and is changing almost daily. I and most of the world doesn't think it's as cut and dry as you want to make it. Then again maybe the entire world is full of people wanting to see honduras become a socialist state. Now that does appear ridiculous to me.

RTBDiver,

We all appreciate your Honduras constitutional acumen but, unfortunately, every government on the face of the earth disagrees with your interpretation.

So tell us all how you interpret article 239 and 374 of the constitution. Please, Let us know what you think of it in your own words, not some hype you cut and paste.

I don't know of the OAS and media supression but it is a fact without any doubt that the OAS, which is supposed to support and promote democracy has recently kicked Honduras out while onlky a month or so ago voted to let CUBA join. Hmmmm, 50 years without an election and CUBA is fine while Honduras gets the boot.

Nah, just watching. If this gets moved to the Pub tho, I quit. Does look like it's going that way.

My original intent in posting here was to post the alert I received by email from the US State Dept for at that time there was no thread in this forum on the subject. One was subsequently moved and merged with mine, but then some people threw some caca de toro at me - so I dug in. Was going to leave, but not with anyone pushing me out.

In case you missed it, much of my participation here was simply to refute lying insults from one very involved member, who threw them at me knowing good & well they were lies. Such tend to make me wonder what he's hiding, but anyway - still not kissing his Costco Ring.

My objective was not to argue politics, even tho I did some by mistake - but only so travelers would have the alert to consider.
1: Would I still go if I had plans? Yeah probly.
2: Would I take a GF or wife if I had one? I'd discuss it with her fully, discouraging her - and see?
3: Would I take my kids at this time. Hell no!

TY

Don, as one (of many) who were on Roatan when this all went down, I can tell you that I never felt one bit unsafe.

Would I take my kids, assuming a direct flight into RTB from IAH or ATL? Absolutely.

My caveats today would be the same minor nitpicks that they've always been. Connections through the ATL still suck, and the area where you clear customs in IAH could at least spring for the free luggage carts like they have in Atlanta. And bring some bug juice. :)

As always, YMMV.

...the area where you clear customs in IAH could at least spring for the free luggage carts...
They don't have them? Don't we use the same area returning from Cozumel? Seems like there were free carts within Immigrations & Customs?

Yeah, I am sure things seem safe enough there, as long as you avoid the problem areas which should be easy enough. I don't think the May riots were anywhere close to tourist areas were they? But they did involve mainlanders. Roatan has virtually no police, and the West End thieves know that none are on duty after 10:30pm I think, but a new security force of Spanish speaking mainland guards has been deployed - with some friction. Some of the squatters trying to build huts on privately owned land came from the mainland. Then on Utila, drug planes are using the air strip for night time, transfers.

But we're told there are no problems at all. Gee, how can any of those affect tourists? Oh there are ways. I'm not going to expand but they happen. See why I don't belive it when I hear that?

Yes, I can believe that the existing problems don't hit the resorts much, but a more honest appraisal would be easier to accept.

Which is only a fair accusation if you assume I never left the resort (which is not true OBTW).

For the record, there are many places I've been to in Houston that I would feel far less safe than the places I've been to on Roatan, including French Harbor and the West End. Yes, guards go a long way toward discouraging trouble; sometimes that's easier and cheaper than replacing stuff and figuring who to prosecute after the fact. That's as true on Roatan or Cozumel as it is in NYC or Houston or even Amarillo. Regardless of where you are, if you expect the local police to prevent trouble then you don't understand how the system works. An ounce of prevention is not a bad thing...

This whole thing with you reminds me of when you were throwing around baseless, unfair, untrue accusations about CCV having bad air when one of their divemasters attempted to rescue a diver in distress and they both died as a result. You had about as many facts then as you seem to have now. I gotta tell you, from here it just looks like you are carrying out some sort of personal vendetta against Hondurans...
