Yeah. Organized trips are really not my thing.

We are looking at October of this year :shakehead: we will see how that goes. Atlantis said they would refund all of it minus $200. We shall see about the flight. My hope is that they the tourism dollars enough to let in fully vaccinated people.

we shall see. All travel insurance these days now includes a clause about not covering pandemic/covid. Or they have increased the cost of said insurance to more than the trip itself............

IT would be foolish to pay any deposit for an airline booking when the country is not open for international tourists and the government already announced that most likely not before 2022 mid year will they have international tourists again. I always book with the airline direct. Cebu pacific allows multiple bags up to the weight limit you pay for. I often bring 3 bags and pay for extra luggage allowance.

I have been called worse. Let me look over my documents and see what my options are!

I will admit that I have not been following anything in Asia. My hope was that as people are getting vaccinated, tourism-heavy countries would open up to them. With the effectiveness of the vaccine becoming more apparent and the reduced risk they pose to unvaccinated people, I hoped they might make a policy allowing them in.

We had talked to the trip leader about it but have not received any paperwork or documentation regarding the cancelation policy if we are not allowed in the country. Like I said, I am not a fan of organized trips. Might have to chalk this one up to a lesson learned from trusting other people to take care of my affairs.

Maldives is the only place that is really opened.
Phuket has been welcoming fully vaccinated person since 1st Jul. But tourist need to stay 14 days before they are allowed to travel out from the island. If they can keep the infection low(90 cases per wk max, a lot less at the moment)) then the "Sand Box" will continue. And LoB to Similan from Nov onward is a distinct possibility. It is all depend on the situation.

If I were you I will look at some places closer to home.

Many people will have to quarantine when they return home if they go to Thailand so it is not just doing quarantine there.

yeah. I am going to see how much money is currently at risk and make some decisions. I am only going to risk so much. We have three weeks off then and had planned to do 12 days in the Phillippines and then the rest in Vietnam. Knew it might be a long shot but a person can hope, right? I think I will make sure I have the Atlantis policy on cancellation in writing before I make my final decision.
The flights to manila were very cheap. The thing that made us pause was the trip organizer wanting all the money for the resort costs at the end of May. Kind of a last-minute thing. We asked about the cancelation policy because of covid and were told we would get a refund -200 but have not seen anything in writing. The person putting this together is from a dive club that my friends are part of. I have never personally met/dove with her.

Time will tell.

Thank you all for the input!

How do you know?
Can you name the countries where those tourists came from?
Japan would be one. I can go to Thailand and get into the Phuket sandbox, but even once I’m fully vaccinated Japan doesn’t have any system in place to let you skip quarantine.
