I did Denpasar to Labuan Bajo and and back a couple of weeks ago and I didn't see anyone's carry on luggage get weighed by any airline while I was lined up to check in with Batik. Lion and Wings were right next to us.

Thanks everyone for the replies, these have been really helpful! Always good to know the reality of how these baggage policies are handled locally.

Following up on this question, everyone’s advice was spot on. We pre-purchased additional weight allowance and no carry on bags were weighed for anyone in our group. Thanks again to everyone who replied here.

Aside from a schedule change that required an overnight layover in Makassar and one flight with less leg room, Lion Air did okay for us.

I flew a bunch in Indonesia last year. I paid for an extra 10K for baggae so my gear would pass (turns out I didn't need it) and no one ever weighed my backpack or carryon bag. It was all very seamless. I flew Lion, Batik and Garuda.

We were on Batik a couple of weeks ago, from Manado to Singapore. We travel with a mountain, so it was not surprising that we had excess baggage. What was surprising, however, was that Batik only accepts payment for excess baggage in cash--and only in IDR. I considered it remarkable that the ATM outside the departure terminal was willing to promptly give me 4,000,000 rupiah, but it was. A bit of a scramble, though. Our carry-on pieces were not weighed; the flight was full and cramped, so a couple of our carry-ons were gate checked.

Always try to pre-purchase your excess it will save you a ton of money and stress!

Good advice. We'd maxed out what they would presell.

I paid for my excess baggage on Batik Air using my credit card at DPS last month, and on return from LBJ to DPS there was a sign stating payment by credit card only.

Did you get a receipt?

That’s pretty funny. And yes, I did get a receipt, handwritten in copious detail as our departure time got closer…and closer…

Whoops--I got this wrong. It was Scoot that refused to take credit cards. The volcano in April pushed us off of Scoot and onto Batik, and I confused myself. Sorry!
