i was wondering what you guys on here think about undercurrent magazine. i've never read one, but have gotten a subscription offer in the mail. it's kinda pricey as magazines go, so i'm interested in opinions about it. i already take Dive Training and Scuba Diving magazines.

I've been a subscriber for about a year now and the publication does provide valuable information. I think if you are a diver that travels a lot then you'll get a lot more out of it.

The chapbook is fun to read and can help you plan dive trips. The monthly newsletter is interesting. It's expensive, but we enjoy it.

My wife does all our dive trip planning and she loves Undercurrent. It's sort-of the "Consumer Reports" of diving. She especially likes the end-of-year chapbook that is filled with user reports on locations and dive operations.

You're right it is expensive. It has some valuable information in it, particularly for travelers. It's a close call. Some issues have great insights into new dive sites, others, well....

Any information I've ever needed, I've been able to find right here on Scubaboard. There is either someone who lives there and can help you, or put you in touch with someone who can. You also get varying opinions here. One person may have had a good or bad experience, but you're able to judge from a majority. I've gotten the solicitations in the mail also. I'm a huge scuba junkie, but I haven't subscribed. My problem is subscribing sight unseen. If I were able to look at it and evaluate it, it might sway my opinion, but until then, I'll trust the people on this board.

I have been a subscriber to Undercurrent for three years and enjoy reading the reviews on locations I go to regularly or am planning on going to.
I like the independent view points as they are no biased by money!
Being new to ScubaBoard, I'll bet you can get any info you need on a location or dive shop here too. If you ask!

I have used Undercurrent for trip planning and have also contributed trip reports. It is expensive since it does not live from advertising. That helps to stay unbiased. Always a trade-off. Having said that, I do recommend it.

I am attempting to put together a website that is similar to undercurrent in that it gathers user reviews of dive operators. I would love you guys to take a look and write a review. Any advice on how I could better the site would be appreciated as well

Undercurrent is an excellent resource for trip planning. In addition to the Chapbook, the travel index on the website will help answer questions like "when are the hammerheads there?, when is the visibility good?, when is the rainy season?, what is the water temperature?" etc. It is the first place I go when planning a trip. Scubaboard is a great resource for specific information, but sometimes it is nice to get a concise overview, rather than having to distill useful information from dozens of posts.
