This past Sunday morning perpet1 and myself got together for a leisurely couple of dives at Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth, ME. I've been itching to dive up there for a little while, and finally got a chance. The site is a nice protected cove with south-western exposure and very easy entry and easy parking. Rocky ledges along both sides of the cove with a coarse sandy bottom and some kelp.
I've heard it was a pretty dive, but it was kind of hard to make up my mind about it. The sea was surgy and the swells were breaking on the rocky ledges at the points on the outside of the cove. The vis was a measly 2-3 feet at best, with about 2-3ft of surge. We went out along the center of the cove, to avoid getting smashed on the rocks. Didn't see too much the entire dive - lots of crabs along the bottom, saw a couple of small lobsters, 1 disfigured starfish, and a sparkplug. Bottom time was 36mins, max depth 25ft. Water temp was 50F top to bottom, with no thermoclines. Needless to say we decided to can the idea of a 2nd dive... Still, it was nice to check out a new place. I will try to come back there again one of these days, hopefully the conditions will be better.
