Tuscaloosa tornado like a bomb, witnesses say - WTOL.com - Toledo's News Leader |

My niece & nephew's house & cars were hit but they're ok. Brother and sis-in-law on the way now with chain saw, generator, etc. I think they're taking I-20 once they get to Dallas then east. Looks like the storm system is moving east from Tuscaloosa so they should be okay - at least from my looking on the net.

Anyone got info not yet on the news...??

MSquared's sister's house and car was destroyed but she is not harmed. A great number of the folks on Scubaboard from Tuscaloosa are in either fire or ambulance. They are overwhelmed right now. We won't know the true extent until daylight.

I suppose that my young family members got off easy only having trees down on their home and cars. Their news just shook me up a bit. My brother and his wife will be there by noon probly, sooner knowing them, if nothing goes wrong on the road - and he gets things done with the best. He's had to learn to pace himself since his colon cancer over 10 years ago, and sometimes it gets him down but not for long.

I was 3 miles from impact for the F5 that level a swath of Lubbock in 1970, then spent the next 40 hours as a volunteer Marine driving a truck on missions before I had to leave for Amarillo. Hoping the best for the Tuscaloosa recovery and condolences for those lost.

Thanks for the donations link. I'll try that since my text failed.

I finally heard from my family out there. They all assumed I was seeing my neice's Facebook page; I am now. Their house is about three blocks from the site of Obama's visit. Calling it "ground zero." Their neighbors said they watched it raise and go right over our house. Way too close, but I am so thankful that they are okay as many weren't nearly so lucky.

The first pic was shot from her phone an hour after the storm...

My cousin and her husband live close to Birmingham, they lost a vehicle and I think most of the area is still without power and the American red cross is holding blood drives in the southern part of the state since the ARC up there was damaged. Every donation helps, god bless the families.
