The next big problem is bringing the confiscated napoleons back to Tubbataha. Now they need to raise P400,000 just for fuel to bring them back!!! Where are those environmentalist-politicos when you need them?

And how much did they say they were charging the mofos?

... and they might get into someone else's net again. one would never know. :(

maybe they would be safer afterall in the tanks of some HK seafood restaurant?:eyebrow:

As an afterthough.....why didn't the wardens catch them when they showed up?

raising 400000 peso for the fishes to go home, is like we have been rape! and asking to be rape some more. whose ideas is this!

Hi Everyone!

Great News! As of 8 PM today all of the Mameng – 351 beautiful Napoleon Wrasse - were successfully transferred from the Hoi Wan to the BFAR sea pens in Sta. Lucia, Palawan. More on the number in a later bulletin – WWF, BFAR and Tubbataha authorities are reconciling their numbers. I am sure all of you are as elated as I am that the fish are finally off the cursed boat and we can now begin to try to nurse them back to health.

Tomorrow, the Grouper (Lapu-Lapu) will be released in and around Puerto Bay and Honda Bay where, fisheries experts say, they will do just fine.

So this next phase is very critical. Fisheries experts here and abroad are providing much needed advice and counsel so that the Mameng get strong and healthy enough for the trip to Tubbataha in March. BFAR, through their very able and dedicated Director Boy Sarmiento have already provided additional security in and around the sea pen perimeter, they will also ensure feed quality (fish and squid) for the animals. Angelique Songco, Tubbataha’s Protected Area Supervisor, has been tireless in monitoring the condition of the animals, feeding updates to the various agencies and organizations about the situation, and helping tremendously in the process of releasing the fish. Whatever progress has been achieved so far would not have been possible without the unselfish and persistent efforts of these two dedicated individuals.

On the other hand, shame on RTC Judge Ilao who, aside from granting bail to 30 poachers from the Hoi Wan, also allowed bail to 8 others from the King King Hai – another poaching boat apprehended by BFAR in July 2006. This same judge also ordered the release of the poaching vessel, King King Hai, back to its owners. There’s something truly fishy there.

If any of you find yourself in Puerto Princessa between now and March, please do take the time to visit your wards in Sta. Lucia sea pens.
