My fanny pack was checked, re-checked and triple checked with the x-ray machine, the chemical machine and finally by hand in Colorado Springs. They did finally figure out where the knife was that I had missed when I did my pre-flight purse inspection and Dayton, OH security had missed when they x-rayed my fanny pack before I flew out to Colorado Springs. Needless to say I lost my $2 knife :) Wasn't worth the hassle to go mail it to myself. I had no clue it was even in there I thought I had lost it. If you want to get stuff on a plane looks like Dayton, OH is the place to do it.

Nah, take it from me, they are all capable of doing things exactly like that!

TEKNITROXDIVER:
I once took a 3" pocketknife from Memphis, through Houston, to San Juan, to a smaller island, back to San Juan, through Houston, and back to Memphis. Let's see...that's at least 3 checks, probably 4 if you count USDA scans. I didn't even know it was in there until I got home....never heard a word about it, and I'm the guy that always gets the "stand here sir, arms out".

The TSA and FAA Red Teams (secret inspection teams) got so good at slipping test guns and bombs through, that they are now required to let the testees know when they are coming, and they STILL get through a large part of the time! :D

This is all despite the fact that they are still concentrating on granny ladies with canes, (certain Scuba Board members :D ), Senators with metal hips, and are not allowed to focus on "you know who" lest some fool claim that they are "profiling". Of course, the ACLU would help to sue the screeners and the airport and the airline.

What a STUPID way to go about things! Sigh! I know we all feel very safe now. (Oh, by the way, hand over those nose-hair clippers, and step away from that nail-file, little old granny-lady, or you die! :bigun2: )

I thought it pretty amusing that Dayton was so concerned about making me take off my tennis shoes (which I can wear in some airports) and then missed that knife LOL!

Don,
Funny you mention Lubbock Int'l. I have parents out in Slaton but have lived in the Metroplex for the last 20 years. My cousins there & I have a running joke that Lubbock Int'l is going to catch 'em (all the terrorists). They just take everything so seriously (more scrutiny than I've seen at DFW & Love). God bless 'em, but they've got such a Deputy Dog mentality at that airport. Makes that 5 hour drive look quite attractive for us.

 Bags are hand searched in front of the counter here, and I always stay and watch. I had the valve out of my pony, a copy of the TSA document covering transport of tanks, but - they never opened either bag. Just swabbed the outsides for chemicals.

Went outside for a smoke and noticed several unattended cars parked on the curb for more than the 10 minutes I was there. An announcement went out over the PA, but no guard.

When I approached the security gate, the same porter who'd carried my bags checked my passport and boarding pass. I know that sky caps are trained in some degree of security, but are they approved to take the place of a TSA agent?

How much extra are we paying for these extra security measures, $10 per ticket? Just an unfortunate joke, I think. :banghead: The agents I met were nice.

How have others fared at airports lately...?

The TSA drone idiots protected the country by taking away a little tiny 1.5 inch long allen wrench from me a few weeks ago. I travel a lot and this silliness really bugs me!

In May we got to Charlotte, then Belize City, back to Charlotte no probs - and then on the last leg Charlotte-Boston TSA decided that the larger of the 2 allen wrenches in my husbands camera case was a "tool" and not allowed, but the smaller one was ok to carry on.

Would have been a pain on the way down, it's a wrench he needed for something on his camera housing.

Geeeze, and I thought everyone in Texas believed all people had WMD's.....

Bet you didn't know you could make C4 out of Jello.... :D

BigJetDriver69:
Don't know 'bout that, but it sure is great to cook with! :D
Just don’t set the pan down before it’s all burned off. :D
