My SO wears a 12-lb stainless plate and a 7 mm wetsuit with his Al80, and finds he's OK like that. The addition of a hooded vest (we've become very used to warm water and now shiver like whippets at there mere sight of even a cold water faucet!) entails the addition of another 2-3 lb, I think. He's 6-feet six and about 190 lb.
 
You are going to get lots of different answers but being a little heavy just requires another shot in the BC .... being light at the end of the dive and trying to do a safety stop can be kinda' scary. Go with the 10% of body weight for a start.
 
It ended up that 16 worked really well! I was thinking of doing 14 but then figured that a brand new 5 mil suit might require a little more.
