How it is with your focus - on the frst photo I see you left original hole untached original it is 7mm but if you want to put through dome hole must be at least 9,5 mm! I attach quick sketch how to focus reflectors- I have plan to try this , thaks for photos ( underwater missing )

Hi folks...I'm from Tromsoe, Norway.

I have built me an D-cell Mag-mod with this reflector and modified it to fit triple scc P7's

watch my comparasion with an darkbuster 24w HID on youtube by searcing on "maglite diy"

since am new on this forum I'm not alowed to post URL's yet...

I'm now working on a 5 x P7 to fit the same D-cell Mag:D

thats pretty close to what mine looks like ... I think if your going to Use that reflector , you should remove the Dome from the Chip... I noticed a better beam when I took off the glass dome of the MCE chip ... Love the death metal Music !!! very nice soundtrack

I took off the glass dome of the MCE chip

H2Odoctor - you mean silicon dome .

I have heard about that beforo - special on OSTAR chip - but I hesitate doing that because it basicaly protects phosphorus substrate from oxidation (special if water wapour is present in the air) which causes low flux of led.

H2O doctor your beams quite nice even P7 (for video) much more focused that from singer II

yes, Lucca Brassi...it has a silicone dome. this cannot be removed because the very thin leads to the four led-parts inside the main-LED, goes through this dome. I have broken some of these before you know....grrr. :)

About the fokus.. it is quite subjectiv how people like it. Some like a narrow beam...others..like me, likes a bit wider beam... it all comes down to taste and what you use the light for...for video you mostly want it wide..and so on.

I'll post pics when I'm done with the 5 x p7 Mag-mod:D

about the music..hehe...yes, its the nice metal musikk Norway is most know for... :)

On base of screen picture I have prepaired blueprint for AluPCB with triple SSC P7. I just start to order some of these reflectors ( I know that I must made bigger hole for P7)
I just like to be sure - has anyone here build lamp with these reflectors , have maybe bamshot pictures? Reflectors are these

Best Regards

Lucca,

I used one of those reflectors from DX (or at least looks like the same one I used) in this 3x MC-E build:

Beamshot pictures are on post #2 of that link. Compared to the other lights I used, it is very bright, but it does not have good throw - the beam is more floody, which is to be expected from using small reflectors.

Thank's Will !

H2O doctor send me some pictures with Cree single die and multi die - nice beam . Thanks for your link too.

In next month I have to construct head with inner space about 56mm ( a little more to test some reflectors and also Packhorse aspheric lens ) . At that time I have not so lot time because of some work more . But I'll inform you on progress. I'm waiting now for inductors from Coilcrafta to made DC-DC current drivers for 2,8A.

Will from where you have source for SST-50/90 ? They are not at AVNET yet?

I have same idea for false battery for installing current driver in it, for some baterries

When I look these pictures of beams it is that with SSC P7 quite tight , which bin you have used probably C , other thing it is ''orange peel reflector '' which soften beam for video and also hide some faults of reflector, led or instalation. I think that maybe clear pattern of reflector maybe get more sharp focus. You didn't made bigger hole in reflector for MC-E leds?
If you with which drill you made that holes bigger P7 have to have hole about 9,5-9,8mm big

I think about that drill - what is your opinion ?

PS: Will

Your pictures limits on tehnical pornography with ........multiorga....m end:):):)
No I really love your DIY but in professional way with tehnical sense for details and construction - it is just perfect!

You are welcome. I got my SST-50's from AVNET. Even though they say that they are backordered and not available, I got mine after about 2 weeks.

No, the dome of the MC-E fits perfectly in those reflectors, but yes, for the P7 you would "have" to enlarge the hole.

I can't give you advice on those drills since I use my lathe and a very small boring bar to slowly enlarge the reflectors from the inside out.

You are welcome. Since I am very visual, I need pictures/diagrams to understand stuff, so the pictures also help me document each project :D

About the drills...I used the one all to the left...and twisted it around with only my hand. no mashinepower! this way you will have full controll over what is happening while drilling. Aluminium is very soft to work with so you will have no problem doing this by hand. use no pressure to it, just twist and let the tool do the work. measure for every turn when you see that you are closing in to the wanted diameter of the hole. good luck
