A local buddy and I met up Sunday afternoon at one of our local quarries here in central Indiana ... Blue Springs. For those who haven't been, it's a no-frills, sign-yourself-in-and-leave-your-money quarry. Rough around the edges, but local, deep (compared to other IN public access quarries), and clear (again, by IN standards).

What an amazingly beautiful day for mid March. Sunny, mid-70s, light breeze. Just awesome!

We got in 2 nice dives. Regardless of the warm winter and recent super warm temps, the water's still darn cold!

Dive 1 ... 41 min, max depth 41 ft, bottom temps right around 40 F, viz 20-25'. My buddy's computer showed 36 F, but I don't think it was really that cold!
Dive 2 ... 32 min, max depth 50 ft, bottom temps the same, viz the same.

There is a slight sign of the water finally warming up. The top 10' or so were around 45 F. Hey, it's something!

It has been a while since I went to Blue Springs. Have the legal issues been resolved?

I have no direct knowledge one way or the other. I've heard the dispute between the person trying to buy it and the current owners is over. The current owners are still in possession of the place if that tells you who came out on top. However, that's just what I've heard 3rd hand. I have no direct info as I've not been the least bit involved. I do know it's open and is being run like it has been for the past 3-4 years ... self-serve, dive-at-your-own-risk style.

Thanks for the report. We have been really fortunate with the great weather this year. I like the locations that are no frills, just jump in and dive. Lets me dive the way I want and am comfortable.

Water temps for the quarries and local lakes have been staying at the 42 degree mark. Can't wait until they warm up a little. :-)

If you make it down this way Mike, I'll make the time to intruduce you to "my" local quarry. It's only 30 minutes from our home.

Thanks for the report.

We are kicking the season off with a strong start.

Die-hard quarry divers are we.

I am Jim's buddy referenced above. Right now I'm trying to put together some rough footage recorded with my GoPro and will post it up here as soon as I have it together.

SWEET! Do share! Do you have the flat lens fix for your gopro?

Yes, I use the one from Mako Spearguns because I am just to darn cheap to drop 80 bucks on the Blurfix. The footage from Sunday is very green so I need to look into a magenta filter to add inside the housing. I'm going to try some photoshop magic this evening to improve the video and then get something posted up.

If I look like a stroke in any of it, please edit that out! ;-)
