OK, here's the concept...
We've all seen the travel doubles velcro rigs, but what about a removable manifold?
I'm thinking a yoke to din adapter, connected to a tee. The tee hosts a din port, and the isolator bar.
This would allow us to rent singles, and dive doubles. Thoughts?
Mike

What about using a "gas switching block"? It's been discussed on SB before, but not yet here (at least I didn't recognize it if it was). I was considering something similar a while ago. It's not fully independent, but allows somewhat of an isolation between tanks. The "manifold as a handle" issue was one reason I was considering a block, especially on a dive vacation.

Sorry if I missed someone else's more detailed discussion of it above,
Sir Veyor

Did you ever find out the name of that company making the "two tank fittings connected via braided steel line to a single yoke"
??

Can hp ports provide a high enough flow rate?
Yes it will, and you can have a Kevlar connector hose made up at most any hydraulic shop that will handle the flow also. If your concerned about failures and shutdowns, I would guess that you could find a high pressure ball valves to put in the line.

Me, I'd just dive independents.

If you are looking for something like this but with a yoke at each end and a din in the middle I do not think you are going to find one. This was an old school way to make a set of doubles out of two single tanks without removing their valves. I believe these were fazed out before 3K tanks and din valves came on the market. The manifold could probably handle 3000psi but I do not think you will find one with a din in the middle.

OMS travel bands, independant L&R DIN rental tanks

Yeah I know the top cam bands are backwards

An isolator is meant to make things safer, and provide a contingency for gas loss. Some of these improvised concepts sound like they'd potentially add higher risk of failure and more risk of gas loss. That'd make me wonder whether they'd actually be beneficial or not.

Diving independent doubles seems to be becoming a 'lost art', but remains a perfectly valid method of conducting dives within the same parameters as you'd other do with an isolated manifold - you just need to get your sack sorted with gas switching and monitoring your gas.

Like Tortuga68, I have a set-up for travelling that permits me to use regular rental singles in a cam-banded indie doubles config. It's cheap, cheerful and does the trick. If you're using rental singles, air or rec-nitrox backgas, you're not likely to be going to do the sort of aggressive dives that demand an isolator anyway...

Here's mine:

What's that setup/bracket Andy? How's the stability?

I was impressed with the OMS kit, very stable as well as meeting the light/small goal. Shame about the retail price

Two of us were pulling on the tank valves, picking it all up by one valve etc & no discernable movement at all

I wouldn't risk a solid manifold on it - not the point anyway - but very good just the same

Only thing I did notice was that the secondary hose on my Tek3s is too short; fine for isolated doubles when you're only on it when required for a valve drill or air share, but annoying when using the other tank on indies as it isn't long enough to turn your head to the left during casual fun diving
