Hey all … let’s talk travel insurance! I’m heading to the Maldives soon and will be on land and liveaboard for 10 days. I have personal medical, life, disability insurance and have DAN “enhanced”dive accident insurance. Would you recommend purchasing more travel insurance?

I always have travel insurance along with DAN dive insurance. Most US medical insurance will not cover you overseas. DAN insurance normally only covers issues resulting from diving, but might be mistaken.

I always travel with DAN dive insurance as well as personal medical insurance for non dive medical emergencies. I self insure for travel insurance, cancellations, lost luggage, and the like. My view on this is I insure for catastrophic events and self insure for the rest. A medical or dive emergency can set you back many 10s of thousands and the insurance is relatively inexpensive. Travel insurance is quite expensive to cover a relatively small amount. So far it has worked out for me and I have not had to make a claim on any of my policies.
