Woah, that was quick!
Ya it is probably about the most mocked piece of gear in scuba. Everyone (at least on this site) knew exactly what you were talking about.

As others have said, it's a scuba device so requires certification to purchase and use safely. But ironically once you are certified you should see how pointless they are.

You should probably look in to "pony bottles" if you're looking for some redundancy in your setup.

If you're looking for a real alternate air source and then a pony/bailout bottle is the way to go. I wouldn't go less then a 13cf and for just little bit more length you can have my personal choice a 19cf. There are a bunch of mounting options, but I've found the "Quickdraw Pony Bracket" to be the easiest. Some prefer to sling them, like a deco bottle and that may be for you. Still haven't figured out what Spare Air's intended market is?

...and I thought he was going to say he saw one in a James Bond movie.
Oh no! James Bond is FAR more advanced.. He can use puny ones that barely hold half a breat and be under for hours :p

On topic: There is a reason why we use large tanks that we carry on our backs over that piece of junk. Its simply not enough air in those things to do you any good for anything but reckless and dangerous fooling around on the beach or in the pool

Underwaterpoet, as a new or soon to be new diver let me give you a little advice so you can avoid what so many of us have fallen victim to. Get certified through a reputable, conscientious instructor and if possible find a good dive mentor as well who can help guide you on your purchases. So many of us have closets full of bad dive gear purchases, there is an amazing amount of crap on the market. You're clearly on the right track to researching purchases by asking on this forum. Welcome to diving.
