And those 20 will tell 20 more and so on, and so on, and so on.
Until it turns into the lynch mob we have going here... It's no wonder no one from Dixie Divers wants to get into this, you'll have already made up your minds.

Sounds to me like you have a poorly organized "group" (don't even know who's going that you worked a discount for that couldn't show up on time (he did say show at 6, which means at the boat, across the street from the dive shop) which pushed the Dixie Diver employees buttons, who took it too far and became unprofessional. Sure sounds like no one is innocent here, I'd say the best course of action is for both parties to chalk it up as experience and move on.

I have had wonderful experiences with Dixie Divers, all the staff were pleasant, worked with me making payments and doing paperwork and are my preferred operator when I want to dive in the area.

Lynch mob... that's a bit harsh, this has been pretty civil I would say. This is not the first time this dive op/boat has been talked about on this board. I have even heard similar comments at a LDS here in NC on the attitude and actions of this particular captain. This was some time ago and had nothing to do with this board. The events they were describing were very similar to the ones posted here.

The dive shop certainly has the right to respond and I would encourage them to do so but it appears they choose not to.
I recall a similar event with a Keys dive op that turned out quite differently when they responded to the thread.

No one deserves to be unfairly accused of wrong doing or bad service. On the other hand I have no problem with fair and accurate reports of bad service. There are always 3 sides to a story. So far we have heard one side (by 2 different members) and the other chooses not to respond. IMO silence speaks loudly.

Not only that onebrightgator how would U feel is the capt told you that you have the shop owner on your cell phone and wants to talk to the captain who leaves 15 min early to catch a bridge opening and did not make it, and tells you "No means No I do not want to talk to the owner on the phone, get the ******* down and ******* you!!!." Does that make it right for any captain to say that to any paying passenger??

That type of behavior is just not acceptable in civil society, paying customer or not!

Of course our minds are made up. If they don't even have the courage to return the call of one of their customers, much less address the issue on the board, it shows they just plain don't care. What more evidence do you need to make up your mind? There are too many shops that people highly recommend, and this is by far, not one of them. So why would anyone want to even chance it. That's like saying to yourself, "I really want to see this movie that everyone loves and I like the actors and story, but this other one got lousy reviews, a bunch of my friends hated it, and several people walked out of it. Let's go see it anyway.

I'm not very happy that he selected MY post to quote...I wasn't even on that trip...I'm quite peeved that I was singled out to be quoted for the "lynch mob" post.

Good morning, OneBrightGator,

The other thing that you need to consider it that, while there may have only been two postings here, several other divers, myself included, corroborated the events on ScubaBoard2, while this board was down over the weekend.

I fully agree, there are always two sides to a story, but as one of the divers who did dive on Saturday night, I have to admit that I was quite unhappy with the service received from both the shop (which, I acknowledge, I only heard about second hand) and the captain (which I witnessed first hand).

Like it or not, this is a service industry, and I fully expect to receive an appropriate level of service - and respect - as a paying customer. And, in my mind, this does not include being outright lied to (the "no radio on board" story) or being cursed at when asking a question. I cannot speak for what happened in the shop, but what happened on the boat was driven entirely by one person - the captain - who acted in a manner completely inappropriate for his position and training. The DM, on the other hand, did a great job which I, and several others, acknowledged through tips.

I am glad that you have had good experiences with this group. I, however, will not dive with this captain again. And, as his employers, I do hold the shop responsible for taking corrective actions.

Just my 2 cents...

Hi Dan,

Question: there were some posts stating this trip had a 600pm departure. Is it possible the captain left the dock thinking he was actually late since the boat left the dock about 615 or 620 from what I read here??

While I think that's a real possibility, I agree, it doesn't excuse the captain for becoming belligerent but I've seen others do something similar over less.

I personally haven't dove on this boat since it was owned by Diversion Excursions and had a totally different captain and crew back 2002 but I have to call into question the captain working from 7am to 11pm (16 hours in a day).

I can also state with charters like Parrot Island in this area, I can't see myself going on this boat under its' present ownership.

I'm going to stick my neck out here...I wasn't even ON this trip...I haven't been on the boat in years and years, since it had a different owner and crew...but can we simply LAY THIS TO REST, the people who are disagreeing with each other will NEVER change their opinions, this is all just too harsh to read and I think it's been discussed to DEATH.

I, for one, would just like to get back to diving with my buddies, I consider everyone who has posted, on either side of the fence, to be a friend or at least a future friend, and it breaks my heart to see all these hard feelings.

Can we PLEASE agree to disagree and let this topic die now? It's been almost a week, nothing is being resolved, people can choose to dive with LGD or avoid them, but can we just all hug and make up and go blow some bubbles??
