There was sesmic surveying on the Belize reef back the 60s. You can still see the large circles of white sand 'dead zones' in the coral from the charges they exploded.

I was told there was an exploratory drill rig also, "guaranteed hurricane-proof!" Then came Hurricane Hattie.

"What happened to the rig in the hurricane?"

"Don't know... they never found it..."
 
Doc, what do you mean when you tie cruise ships stopping in Belize to price of fuel? I've probably misunderstood you but fuel in Belize is very expensive compared to most places.

Please don't believe the Prime Minister has given this up. He's a politician and Oil company money is big. He will say 'no problem here' while they slip it in the back door.

Doc, what do you mean when you tie cruise ships stopping in Belize to price of fuel? I've probably misunderstood you but fuel in Belize is very expensive compared to most places.

For you and me, yes- more expensive in Belice when I fill up my Hummer or you fuel your 'snowmachine'.
But for cruise ships and trans-atlantic flights? There are incentives in the form of reduced fuel tax rates.
That's kind of a big deal.
