I have heard that Thistlegorm wreck is closed for divers due to risks of collapsing of the wreck.

Does anyone have recent information?

I dove the wreck 2 years ago, and there was no talk of this at all.

BTW, you may want to post your inquiry on one of the British diver websites as they tend to dive the Red Sea a little more often than us North Americans. (It's so close & cheap for them it's disgusting!!!)

Please post any reliable info here when you find out. That's one of my fav dive sites.

so you don't reckon much could have changed in that time?

if it has been closed it is more than likely due to being torn apart by the hundreds of dive boats that tie on to it and then sit back in the strong currents you get there.

It was still open 3 weeks ago Clive, when I was down there.

There is/was talk of it being closed though. I uderstand that the authorities are concerned about air pockets being trapped inside the wreck which result in it decaying faster.

My guys dived there on 29th Feb and were planning to go today. They probably would not go there not due to the closing of the wreck but a very rough see - I've just talked to them 5 minutes ago. So Chippy it is not true that the wreck is closed.

Um, i didn't say it was, just that I had also heard that it might, some time in the future.

maybe I didn't make myself clear there!! :bounce:

Sorry Chippy - it's my fault. Instead of writing that ScubaWim is mistaken I wrote about you... (well... Mr Freud said that simple linguistic mistakes don't exist... )

Anyway I wouldn't be happy if they do close the place.
:frown2: I like it so much..... And it doesn't seem to be in such a bad shape... So let's hope we are not tallking about the near future....

Yeah, I missed diving it when I was there - they couldn't get enough people together on the same day to justify the long trek down there.

Hopefully I'll manage it in October when we're there next!!

Why don't you try 1st May - I'll be there!!!!! Then we could get a group together....

Would love too, but my holiday allocation is all booked up for this year.....

Keep us posted with how you get on though.
