After finishing poolwork today, I have found some things I like and dislike about BC's

I dont like the seperate cord to deflate a BC (is this just Cresi?)

I like quick release weights (and weight intigrated)

I like jacket style

I like around $300

I like good companies who make good products.. :D

Any suggestions?

thanks!

What do you mean "separate cord"?

I have a Dacor Talon. It should meet your requirements. Not saying I recommmend it as I have little experience with various BCs, but it has a shoulder dump where the inflator is, another shoulder dump with a cord, and a back dump with a cord.

...perhaps he/she means the corrugated hose...?

All BCs, whether or not they are jacket style, back inflate, or bp/w, should have at least one dump valve other than the corrugated hose/oral inflator. Note that have seen ScubaPro vests a a shop for rental where the rear dump valve was just a cap, though...I wouldn't dive with something like that ever.

If you are diving in what many people (myself included) believe to be the best position , the rear dump valve should be the only place you need to use to dump air. If you are completely horizontal in the water (think skydiver), then you should be able to use the rear dump valve with no issue.

If you look at this picture, the rear dump valve is the small circular thing with the piece of string sticking out of it, toward the bottom. Note that this picture is of a double tank wing, so it might look rather large.

Personally I believe that one dump valve is enough--I don't need 4 or 5 (pull dump at the connection of the corrugated hose and the BC, right shoulder, right rear dump, left rear dump, etc). Just one is fine, plus the oral inflator. Anything beyond that is just another possible failure point.

About "tuggin the inflate thingie"--a pull dump is a great way to lose all buoyancy in your BC. Imagine pulling that thing completely off in the middle of a dive and losing ALL your buoyancy and you're negative. Would you be able to kick yourself up to the surface? It's been done before...
