Buy 2 80's for the price of a steel and you don't have to rent the other tank for the second dive. There is plenty of time later to get a steel tank.

My only problem with the AL 80 is that I'm wearing a 7mm farmer john in salt water and carry a lot of lead with the 80, but I used them for years because two dives are better than one. I have a tank farm now and they don't get much use unless I go some where I can't get fills and I bring all my tanks.

Thanks guys, I think i have decided on the AL80 for now and will look at steels later on. It seems like the best bet for now. I will probably upgrade/add to my equipment as i learn and a tank will just be one of those things. Again, thanks for the great input, i love this place.

LP72s are great if you find'em cheap. The swing is very reasonable too, -5 to about -0. I just swapped to twin LP72s (non-isolating)... it gives me well over an hour of backgas at depth, which I'm perfectly content with!

If I were to switch to a bigger tank though, it'd probably be an LP95.

I like low pressure tanks.

I went in to my LDS today to pick up some stuff. I asked about tanks and they said that steel tanks need to have the air changed every so often (i think they said 4-5 months).

Gee, it's been at least a couple of days since someone has posted a dumb comment about tanks from a dive shop....you'd really think these guys would eventually run out of nutty statements.

Think about the 'logic' of replacing air...do they think that the air somehow acquires moisture while in the tank and needs to be changed with dry air, kind of like an oil change? Or is it that they just stock AL tanks....

Yea i thought it was strange that they think it will somehow gain moisture, but figured id ask on here incase i was missing something. They do stock aluminum tanks, but seemed perfectly happy ordering a steel tank if thats what i wanted so i dont think they were just pushing an aluminum tank.

AaronRiot: thanks for the link, good info to have.
