When do you want to go kill some lion fish?????
Doug
The OP was unsettling so I trudged thru all 8 painful pages hoping to find a reason not to post this:
rcpalmer - you flamed a reputable, exceptionally well-run Op for not engaging in behavior that the experts advise not to do and few people have actually done successfully
I had the good fortune to dine w/ a REEF employee and asked about the best way to kill lionfish. In addition to reiterating the info everyone, except apparently you, has found by performing the difficult task of reading REEF's statement (for your reference http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/fl...-lionfish-here-what-reef-org-wants-us-do.html ), I was told these things are VERY fast, very difficult to kill, and after they escape they avoid divers. REEF has study data; opine all you want, you're still wrong. This is why REEF came up w/ the bag system to catch them. Also, since lionfish learn to avoid divers, after all the no-aim-but-take-my-speargun-anyway-to-compensate-for-my-teenie-weenie guys give up failing to kill them, it will be more difficult for the people who actually know what they're doing to eradicate the species. But, hey, thanks for playing.
If you're not rcpalmer & want to flame me cuz YOU have good aim, start your flame w/ a detailed account of how YOU killed a lionfish. Not your buddy, not your neighbor, not some guy you read about. You. I'll see rcpalmers' $20 & raise $50; I bet the number of meateaters will be substantially less than the number of posters.
Not that it matters, but does anyone KNOW (oppose to speculate) if the OP incident involved an actual lionfish? A good DM recently stopped my insta-buddy from killing a scorpionfish ....
Full disclosure: I don't know, don't work for, nor am related to Walker. I had the good fortune to dive w/ him & would recommend him to anyone. If you don't know me, I rarely post like this, but flaming Walker with such vehemence was dangerously unwarranted..
