Some things to consider.

First of all, I believe that a good deal of the footage is a reenactment. It may not be faithful to the details of the original accident in important respects.

Second of all, ice diving predates the tec/rec era, and is typically conducted according to a set of safety rules and procedures that are different than cave/wreck/deco dives. In particular, there are people who conduct these dives without redundant first stages. The overall safety record of ice dives conducted in this fashion is not poor.

That's true. Although I'll never dive under the ice without some redundancy - but to each their own I suppose. Even an H valve would be better then nothing.

Yes it could be quite a bit of reenactment - who knows. It's still horrible.

I wouldn't either.

On the other hand, there are people who've been doing it for years who haven't seen a set of doubles, ever, let alone having the gear or experience to use them.

That's a good point. I actually read some threat last night about a woman that regularly dives to 200'+ on a single tank of AL80 trimix and a small pony. That in itself is super sketchy - but I guess as long as they are happy...

0:11..."this program contains re-enactments..." Still it was a total piss poor planned dive coupled with lack of training and proper equipment. I cannot believe that he was the instructor and was going to teach them ice diving. The diver with the least amount of dives reacted rather well. Thank God that it was an ice dive...much easier to bring someone back if they are cold than warm.

I see it now that I look closer - I think my video must of skipped the 11 second mark or something the first time. Still as you said - poor planning and execution.

Cave diving too.

annnddd ... That is what happens when you venture into somewhere you are not prepared to go.

I was at Morrison springs once testing a new configuration and entered the lower cavern where someone came up to me near the far side of the room and signaled OOA - so I donated them my long hose off the right tank and we went back to the surface. That was an interesting day to say the least - I wonder what they would of done if I hadn't of shown up... they didn't even have any lights - it concerns me that they would even venture into the cavern without at least one...
