Several of my 1st stag regulators have the letter "R" near a low preasure port. I once knew what that meant. Not sure now. Is that where they suggest you connect your primary 2nd stag? If so why? If not then what does it mean?

From a Poseidon manual:

"One outlet marked R for second stage (max. airflow)"

"outlets marked LP for drysuits, buoyancy compensators, hookah supply,
safety second stage, etc."

And for some models: "One outlet marked S has restricted airflow and therefore is intended only for dry-suit or stabjacket"

But I don't recall what words the R and S stand for. I don't think the words are English.

Older Poseidon 1st stages will also have a port marked "U". This is for "Uni-Suit" and is where the inflator hose for the Poseidon Uni-suit dry suit was to go.

As you draw air through the first stage the intermediate pressure drops due to the friction through the regulator. This drop in intermediate pressure slightly increases the work of breathing through the second stage. In order to overcome this tendency for the IP to drop as air flows through the system, some manufacturers icorporate a venturi path into the design or their first stage. This boosts the IP as flow increases. The problem is that the venturi can usually be incorporated into only one of the available low pressure ports, so the manufacturers usually mark that port with a unique symbol.
