More pics before the new year comes! Since there was a mount pinatubo thread before, here are some pics from the hike there:

We begin at the Trek resort in Capaz Tarlac. There's parking here.

The sign lies - it's an hour jeep ride and then a TWO hour hike up to the crater. You can also take a 2 hour jeep ride and a 40 min hike up to the crater, but that depends on the weather.

The 4x4s:

And off we go!

Taking straight pictures in a 4x4 along a bumpy road is hard!

We mainly go along (or over) the river bed to get to the base of the mountain:

The view was nice. Bumpy as hell.

Our driver and badass guide:

More scenery pics. My cousins are in the yellow jeep:

Crumbling lahar mounds:

An hour later we get to the base of the mountain. We have 2 guides that carry our lunch:

After stretching we begin hiking along the river bed to the top of the crater.

It starts off wide and barren but it gets greener as we hike up.

Cousins. the current really picked up in this choke point when passed here going back:

Lahar cliff walls:

Something we found along the way:

The guides called it dinner.

We continue hiking up and the path gets narrower:

Finally we enter the jungle/rainforest:

The jungle/rainforest part was my favourite. There's about 40 mins through here.

Very Zen hiking along the stream:

Here we are stopping for a drink at the water pipe that the guides installed to harness the rain water:

The top of the crater ridge in sight!

Made it!

They have a nipa hut where we ate lunch.

Here's the view from the edge:

Here's the view of the lake:

After lunch we trekked down to the lake for a swim:

There are stairs to get here.

Lake:

Looking a bit chilli:

Good thing the water was warm!
3152138473_83c8b68d1d.jpg

The water was warm for a mountain lake but not hot tub warm. The guide said there are warm pockets.

View looking up:

And the viz:

Taken at 1 foot. :)

We hiked back down and the cousins decided to use the spa:

In general, it was fun but I wish I had been more prepared (the resort lied to us and told us it was possible to do only the 40 min trek, so we weren't packed and prepared for a 2 hour trek!). Also wish that the weather would have been better, but all in all, it was quite an experience. IIRC, it was ~P700/head to do the trek which includes the guide, drive, 4x4, and lunch.

Happy new year everyone!

for some reason i can stare at this one all day... and not in an old fart manyak sort of way... her eyes and expression are riveting... gorgeous dichromatic color scheme too...
