I'd never be in a vertical position -- it's too uncomfortable, cold, affects diving, can't move around using fins... -- so can't help you with the gas consumption I'm afraid.

I invite you to come dive with me in Asia in warm water where you don't even need a wetsuit. It's so comfortable. Raja Ampat awaits you I'm going there in October. Dive op only has 21% no nitrox but the dives are shallow water in the sunshine.
 
The test : oxygen consumption by a diver in a horizontal vs a vertical position

Any particular reason to be using oxygen for the test? Air would help keep the costs down on the study.
