Any anasthesiologist who has to resort to GoFundMe for a $100 plane ticket after springing $2k for a regulator probably should sell his reg. Jes' sayin.
FTFY.

Scubatools Small Face Spanner 16-075-500 ($25) works just fine. Pin dimples are 0.075", so this tool's pin size is perfect. Since they're both exactly the same size, if your tool is new, it might be a squeeze without a little sanding of your pin. But my work tool fits perfectly. Hitting only two out of three dimples isn't a problem for this smoothly-unscrewing component. Another shout-out for Atomic fit and finish.

Atomic doesn't have a tool for the TFX SS yet?

Thus far, there is NOTHING in my dealer portal for the TFX except the DIN and Yoke versions of the complete TFX reg set (1st and 2nd stages).

I will ask Bruce (Scubatools) if he is willing to make one.

Are you talking about a tool for removing the TFX 2nd stage cap? So that you don't have to use your face spanner pin wrench?

Seems unnecessary. lol!

I don't mind spending money on tools, so I splashed the princely sum of $71 and got a face spanner wrench with multiple sizes of pins you can swap in. It has ones small enough that they should work on the TFX cap (including 1.5 and 2mm). I do a lot of my own handiwork and probably should have bought a toolset like this a long time ago anyway.

Not hiding... working in the background. Rob is going to get me some measurements I need for the tool ( I'm thinking printed carrier for steel tabs to properly engage it). I'm also looking into a D400 Retaining ring to accept TFX Diaphragms and maybe a silicone replacement for the D400 cover/exhaust. Full time job, vacation, parenting and fun round of Covid slowed down the works as well, lol.
I hope it was clear that my comment was intended to be tongue in cheek! Your willingness to assist the SB "us" (myself included) has been remarkable and is much appreciated!!!!

Maybe we should all chip in and buy you a one way ticket to Ft Lauderdale. The irony is that it would probably cost 2x-3x what it would cost to send Rob for less than 1/3 the distance.

Now I'm wondering what a extended exhaust, silicone scrotumed, TFX diaphragmed, D400 might perform like ... Rob, your trip may have to wait until James is done!

Absolutely taken as intended, lol. I just have a problem with enjoying attacking these "problems", lol. On the printer now is hand wheel with a 1/4 inch broach that I'll drop 3 stainless steel pins into to make the 3 pin spanner. Already printed is first try at a fully printed spring adjuster and a version 2 that will take steel tabs incase the printed one won't take the torque. So these tools should be ready to go int the mail tomorrow or monday to Rsingler for testing/feedback.
Regards the D400, I hadn't planned on extending the exhaust... just trying to get a functional replacement in silicone (also thinking about a printed one in duro 83 TPE). If I can get either of those sorted, I can look at extending the exhaust "wings" to the rear. Who knows, it may end up comparable enough to the TFX to be an option for us peasants that can't drop $2500 on a reg! Heck, what I take to dive any given dive day (rig, reg, wetsuit, tanks, everything) cost me less than that, lol.

Respectfully,

James

can I use my long hose with it?
Yes, easily. When you unscrew the Comfort Swivel hose that comes with the reg set, you find a standard-length threaded end that easily accepts a long hose. The valve mechanism is held in a heavy square broach in the case that will tolerate the frequent overtorque that many divers apply when attaching a hose.

It doesn’t need the nut for spacing?
