i wana dive up there...

and ive herd that eastpot is awseome...

where in eastport did you dive...
i used to live about 40 minn from there, and never dove there...
swimming off the breakwall yes but no scuba

We dove right in downtown Eastport. Do you know where the Waco Diner and the Motel East are? The dive site is directly in front of the Motel East. It's the old steamship pier. The pier itself is gone, but the granite footing is left. You can only dive it right at slack tide or you're on a quick run to Boston Harbor or up into the Bay of Fundy ;). The tidal swing there is 20-25 feet, so the depths are either about 30 fsw or about 50-55 fsw, depending on when you dive it.

It was a great dive, with lots of old crockery, bottles and clay pipes from the old pier, gorgeous Northern red anemones and tons of nudibranchs (about 6 or 7 species), sea cucumbers and about 7 or 8 species of cold water sea stars. Also saw some monster lobzillas, gorgeous slime worms (nasty name, pretty critter), whelks, urchins, lumpsuckers...just tons of critters. Brought home some bottles from the 1870's. It's great for artifact hunting, since so much stuff was tossed off the steamships and the tidal swing seems to keep uncovering new stuff all the time.

Unfortunately for critter hunters, though, I've heard from my friend who has a house in Lubec that the NEA did a "harvest" at that site for their Eastport exhibit and really raped the site. Apparently it's nowhere near the site now that it was when I first saw it. There are, apparently, however, other sites in the area...I've just never dived them.

It *was* one of the most beautiful dives I've ever done. I can't say what is is now. My friend who lives there about half the year says it's really been seriously damaged by the NEA harvest - frankly, since he has literally hundreds of dives on that site, I trust his judgement. That's a real shame. But I'm sure that the next time I go up, I'm sure he'll have other great sites to show me. But if your interest is artifacts, then I'm sure they're still there.

yeah i know exactally where that is....
i wannna get up there this summer

You may NOT call me Giddsie, especially NOT "lil Giddsie" and since WHEN is it your duty to harass me?

The things I find that have been occurring while I was napping!
