Okay, seriously, as this dead horse gets beaten into a bloody mash, I must realize that alot of you have shown great wisdom and restraint. So you must not be all bad.

Seriously, I'm not DIR. I have been a cave diver since '96 and a commercial diver since '98 and I don't know everything despite my best attempts to sway people into believing otherwise. I continue to learn daily. I have learned things from the DIR crowd.

I think it doesn't matter what name you guys go with, whatever you choose, move forward with patience, tolerance, all the while being as informative as possible and you will ensure success. Honestly, I look forward for the chances to dive with you guys in the future... especially if you look like Scootergirl.

i agree with you, once again it was the attitude that was displayed. the snubbing ect. not tha accuracy of what he said. a pony bottle not only looks stupid it is stupid. he certainly felt superior about it.

Bob answered this fairly well.... this certainly isn't what I meant at all.

I meant this on two levels. One is answering the OP as to what moniker we should replace "DIR" with.... and my response to that is "DIR... it's just diving".

But I also meant it as a reminder. Why get hung up on some tribal attitudes? It's just diving. Do I care what other people do? Not really, it doesn't impact me. It's just diving. Should people care about what I choose to do? Not really, it's just diving.

There are people on this board who think vintage is better, or minimalist is better, or dork diving is better. There just aren't, perhaps, as many of them, and they don't have as visible a label.

I would even say I think it's all just different, not better.

I'm not DIR trained and much of my diving doesn't fit into (its) parameters but I still come here with an open mind and willingness to learn because there is a lot of good information contained within the system.
The only funny look I ever got from a real life DIR diver was regarding my Converse hightop rock boots; and that wasn't even a condescending look as much as a "what the hell are those" kinda look.

In my short time diving, I've seen several DIR Converse rock boots. I imagine much of it has to do with Scubapro's (until-recently) bizarre XXL jetfin sizing.

Ya, I get that in my Chuck T's all the time. It's odd enough seeing a drysuit in Hawaii, it's even odder to see a drysuit with Converse for rock boots. Being a trend-setter is never easy .
