don't kill your dry suit - just put pockets on it so you can carry your wet notes and write good messages to it - that way it will know what to do next...

Didn't mean to be fuzzy, guess I should have mentioned you can't have anything between the regulator and forehead. My instructor holds their head and presses her regulator into it to get good sound transmission. I'm still working on it, sometimes you can understand me, sometimes you can't.

Occasionally I hum when I dive and my buddy can hear that sometimes. We normally use hand signals, don't have the fancy lights :( I have a slate but can't find anywhere to carry it to keep it from dangling and annoying me so it rarely goes in the water. Necessity is the mother of invention so now we have signs for "this su**s" and "get your head out of your butt." I'm working on one for "I'm going to kill this stupid dry suit!"

That’s interesting. Do people often make up their own sign language or do most stick to the conventional sign language that is taught during OW training?

Thanks

How do you get pockets on a Viking X-treme? I'm still new to the dry suit scene, didn't realize you could add parts.

Uncle gave me some tips to try and hopefully dry suit and I will sort out who is in charge the next time we get a chance to dive.

Paul
I believe people who dive with the same buddies develop their own set of signals (sometimes taken from manuals) in addition to what is taught in OW. Different diving environments and activities can also necessitate site specific signs.

Hi Ber Rabbit

Can you give a couple of examples of how different dive sites and activities require specific signs?

two hands in a "squeezing out water out a rag" (or wringing a neck) motion, to indicate "we'll talk about this on the surface"

:D

Not that I was asked, but... :)

Local animals/fauna
Local navigational structures/hazards
Speciality gauge readouts (ie PPO2 for homebuilt rebreathers)

My favorite is TexasMike's handsign for "you're about to hit your head on a tree limb" :) Which is something lake divers can understand ;)
