I find scubaboard great - mainly because of the activity / participants.

However, IMO one big letdown with this board (and many others) is the hijacking of posts.

I know that it's a big ask (so I only put my opinion forward, and leave it as that), but I believe a great improvement would be to have a thread/branched based forum (like dpreview.com).

This way, one topic can have multiple threads/branches. If one particular replier causes a debate that goes off topic, they only create one branch, and don't hijack the whole topic or the OP's request. (Sort of how newsgroups work).

I realise though that it would take a major rewrite, so only post it as a suggestion. :)

Well, there are several ways to achieve the same result.

Just keep the feedback coming, good or bad. :)

To be frank I think that the biggest problem with SB continues to be the technical issues. This has been going on for so long that I'm afraid "we're working on it" doesn't really cut it. I'm a member of several other boards, not necessarily diving boards, that are twice as big, have normally 2 or 3 times the number of people simultaneously on line and posting way more times per minute, running the same vbulletin software, and they're fast and never crash.

For a new board to have these issues I can understand. For a board that professes the kind of professionalism that SB does I honestly think that this should have been sorted a long time ago.

I'm not a dive business but if I was I wouldn't even consider using SB for advertising until this single issue was resolved. It would reflect badly on my own professionalism.

My only frustration is that when someone asks a question sometimes a barrage of put-downs and name calling

The biggest problem is the censorship that goes on. ... the censorship of opinions is truly offensive. I'm offended by things people say or write all the time, but I respect their right to say it. On Scubaboard, this simple basis of American cluture (sic) is lost. I'd rather be offended than be censored...

Sometimes you see helpful advice and thoughtful comments, but often you see comments that are short to the point of being rude and this must discourage new posters from asking questions and learning more about the wonderful sport of scuba diving...

...There have been a few bad apples, though that have hurt the Board's reputation, as mentioned above. In talking to other divers I have found a large number of experienced divers are aware of SB but have been turned off in a MAJOR way by the know-it-alls and put-downs...

i am back less than an hour and Teamcasa is already deleting my posts...this is why i didn't log on to ScubaBoard for eight months ... maybe i should stay away eight more?

Sure does make one want to be a Mod, doesn't it?
