This is supposed to be America... but somehow that has been forgotten.

America? Dang, When I look out my window it doesn't look anything like America here. Hmmm ohhh thats right, this is the WWW, a globally accessible forum.... <sarcasm>

as to the original question - generally I think things around here are pretty good. sometimes threads run a little long.... but lots of good opinions and things to absorb. We're lucky to have good hard working mods.

I think Scubaboard as it stands is pretty good - the main thing that irks me is the put-down's you see from experienced divers and longterm SB posters towards new divers/posters here.

Sometimes you see helpful advice and thoughtful comments, but often you see comments that are short to the point of being rude and this must discourage new posters from asking questions and learning more about the wonderful sport of scuba diving.

I rarely disagree with the content of what the people who post putdowns write, but I hate the way it is delivered. This seems to be especially prevalent by some of the DIR crowd who seem to regard themselves as diving Gods and everyone else should bow to their diving wisdom. TSandM is a notable exception to this and her posts towards new divers are always thoughtful and helpful.

Apart from this, I love Scubaboard.

Still trying to navigate my way about and get set up. I've tried to place a picture on my profile but it tells me a .jpg file is an invalid format (?). I just followed the instructions I think. Anyway, I'm comletely new to this sort of thing. Never been on any kind of message board place so I'm REALLY a newby! (Maybe I even spelled that wrong.) Anyway, I do like the way I get email when I have a message so I can come back and see what's going on. Otherwise, I might not think about returning very often. Thanks.

HI Claire,

Gosh, I don't know how one even try to load a jpg onto a Sig? You could possible use an IMG code from Photobucket.com, but it'd have to be for a tiny pic. From the TOS...
Signatures must be limited to four lines with no images other than board approved smilies. We reserve the right to edit or delete any signature we do not feel is appropriate for our board.
As you can see, pics are not actually allowed, altho that is rarely enforced. The sizing limits cut off anything larger than 4 regular lines.

And from Edit Signature, which can be accessed thru Quick Links or UserCP (the page I have bookmarked for SB)....
Your Signature:
Please limit to 4 (blank) lines as per the TOS. The preview does not reflect the actual space available.
Now, if you're wanting to add a pic below your Username that appears on every post, that is done thru Edit Avatar.

Please do click my Username and Personal Message me if I can help... ;)

Good news Don!

Over the weekend, we changed the Max for signatures to 120 pixels, which is about 6 normal lines of text!

Oh, cool. I was just quoting the TOS and instructions. Good to know...

How are you doing

Well my lawyer is going to bring a lawsuit at you :D
It seems you have made me a SB addict :rofl3:

SB ROCKS

Amen. I don't post often, but enjoy reading other's posts, when I can find down time to visit. This is a really good forum where divers, both new and old can pontificate, tell tall tales, make new friends or just visit old but distant friends, ask or answer questions, learn and/or teach. Here one can find great photos and stories, and good people who like to help other divers grow in our wonderful sport. There have been a few bad apples, though that have hurt the Board's reputation, as mentioned above. In talking to other divers I have found a large number of experienced divers are aware of SB but have been turned off in a MAJOR way by the know-it-alls and put-downs. I too love Scubaboard and like to see and hear ALL divers, both the new, and those vastly more experienced than myself. I come here to learn, laugh and relax (and dream of my next destination!) Same. I don't really know what SB can do about it though - no way of implementing a politeness filter and censorship for etiquette is far worse than continuing with the status quo...

A long time ago it was easy to post pictures, then it was changed and the instructions to do it were way too long and complicated for somebody who is lazy like me. Maybe it has been simplified again, I just haven't tried to post a picture in a long time to find out.

I think the board is managed very well and there is very little negativity, however sometimes I feel that it is somewhat over moderated in an attempt to make it too PC.
