hate to break it to you, it’s already in development for a year now
Oh that's wonderful. I hope Alex Deas has left plenty of space at the bottom of his spreadsheet. I miss the glory days of rebreather diving with everyone competing to be the next Jack Kevorkian.

I'm guessing "in development" means buying a JJ and copying every component?

Look into the HotDige catalogue and you will see wonders.

more Fathom than JJ (mCCR), in both available formats (back/sidemount), you can see their flyer on the Hotdive website actually, money doesn’t grow on reefs

I’d be very open to testing them (as in build a snort and test them in dry conditions, maybe also pool); but I’d rather buy a unit I’m actually certified to dive (anyone selling a used kiss sidewinder by any chance?)

To be fair, a rebreather isn't that hard to rip off and there's not a huge amount of original thought in many of the mainstream civilian rebreathers on the market. Arguably there's already a lot of, ahem, heavy taking of influence from other manufacturers anyway so I'm being a bit of a hypocrite. There's only so many ways you can put together a bog pipe and a couple of bags before everything looks the same. Do me a knock off Mk16 scrubber and I might be interested.

We have always believed that excellent diving equipment should originate from the real needs of divers and must be born through their professional testing.

Since our brand was established, we have been fortunate to receive generous support and trust from numerous professional divers around the world. They have been more than willing to invest their time and effort to provide invaluable testing feedback for our products. It is this profound trust from the global diving community that serves as the core driving force behind our continuous iteration and optimization.

We are eternally grateful for this. Therefore, what we do is never merely "sending samples"; instead, we have the honor of inviting them to become our "product partners." Every dive test they conduct and every piece of professional advice they offer directly shapes the next version of our products.

Creating a product that all divers genuinely love and trust is our ultimate goal. The only way to achieve this is to always remain open and humbly listen to the professional insights of every diver.

This is the path we hope to continue walking together with all of you.

Or roughly translated, "we don't believe in paying for 3rd party testing to make sure our products hit basic thresholds for performance and safety because we won't be able to undercut the brands we're 'inspired' by so we are just going to give it to users and see if it kills them or not".

Most research suggest humans are pretty poor at making judgements about how things are performing, even when those things are having a negative impact on them. The opinion of "professional divers" who've been handed free kit is about as valuable as some 19 year old on Tiktok telling me about how safe tren is.

The end of the world will probably come because someone bought a self-assembly nuclear power plant off Aliexpress to save 50 quid. Divers really do deserve everything they get.

HotDive is really driving the wave of innovation in the dive industry.

And listen to these expert divers with their professional reviews:

I swear stuff like this only exists because those muppets on Youtube who do unboxing videos single-handedly keep the companies in business.

If you go to the effort of putting on an anti-drowning bracelet because you think you might be doing something risky around water but not an actual lifejacket or buoyancy aid then you really do deserve to drown.

It reminds me of the video of George Irvine unrolling a body bag as part of the DIR equipment update.

You do realize that a third of e commerce in China is through these types of videos (salesperson, influencer, whatever). Why is that? It’s because traditional advertising through corporate/government media is distrusted because of past coverups of malfeasance. Hence, a testimonial from a person is perceived to be more trustworthy. Of course, that doesn’t make it so, but what realistic alternative is there for somebody living in that environment.
