Is TDI another worthless money machine for the Agencies, like AOW, or is it a worthwhile endeavor? What does it incorporate since, "technical" diving covers so much territory? (I'm not trolling, this is serious business.)

I think you are getting confused. AOW is a cert offered by PADI/Naui. TDI is "Technical Diving International" a certifying agency.

You may not be trolling but, the negative slant to your post "Is TDI another worthless money machine" sure makes it looks like you are.

I would suggest that if you want to do 300 foot dives then it is probably worth getting some training beyond PADI OW.

But that might be just me.

Quite frankly it depends upon where you're at... some areas of the country and world are more TDI friendly and others are more aligned with IANTD. I have cards from both, from the same instructor mind you, simply for the reason of seeing which was better.

TDI for Adv Nitrox and IANTD for Deco procedures. Why? Because TDI offered 100% O2 card where as it was only 50% or something less than 100% for IANTD... or something like that.

IANTD definitely had better materials from what I can recall.

In the end and over the years, it doesn't matter which agency as long as you have a good instructor. The instructor makes all the difference. I've been blessed with few clunkers for my training, mainly getting outstanding professionals that genuinely want you to learn and then some.

Professionalism, experience and flexibility have been the traits of these instructors. Each have had their own teaching styles. Some have actually switched or transitioned agencies over the years as well. So when I go back, I might end up with a 5th agency... LOL

From an instructor's perspective (I'm not an instructor for either, but have been researching both to decide which I want to go with), TDI allows its instructors a little more flexibility in how they train. IANTD's standards are pretty specific with certain things.

Slightly related topic - TDI allow you to combine the Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures course.

From what I have been able to see IANTD do not seem to permit you to combine them in the same way. Or am I mistaken?

Depends on what you mean by combine. I payed for both classes and took them back to back. Is that what you mean?

On the TDI website it says that Advanced Nitrox is a 5 day course and Decompression Procedures is a 4 day course, but you can do both combined in 6 days.

I wondered if there was a similar time saving device with IANTD. When you did them back-to-back, how long did both courses take?

The IANTD website is pretty vague on the specifics.
