Chuck Tribolet:
I'm doing a liveaboard trip this year, and it's not the tropics: British Columbia on Nautilus Explorer

Further north is first on my list for future dive travel--I would love to hear your impressions of this region as a local Monterey diver. Thanks, Todd

JMC99:
Do you actually enjoy the diving or is it just a painful way to make log entries until you can get to Cozumel?
When conditions are right, diving in Carmel feels like the combination of flying over Yosemite or through a redwood forest.

I would really like to get some more Monterey experience away from the BW and Lovers. I have yet to dive Lobos or anywhere else besides the aforementioned. :(

Chuck Tribolet:
55F? We wish. 44F yesterday at Pt. Lobos. And good vis and cool critters.

I've been all over the world, and I'll take Monterey. Yes, you need a drysuit, but I don't
think it makes it harder to dive.

Even if the vis is crappy, you can find what make Monterey: the invert life.

BTW, I wasn't all that impressed with Kona. It was warm, diving was OK, the manta
dive was world class, but that was just one dive out of the week.

I'm doing a liveaboard trip this year, and it's not the tropics: British Columbia on
Nautilus Explorer. No Cozumel for me. No TSA, not 50 pounds per bag limits either.
(BTW, somebody got sick, so there's two spots open if you can leave on Saturday).

Chuck

Chuck, you on the Nautilus this coming Sat? See you there. 4th year in a row for us.

Monterey/Carmel X 100!! Clearer water, bigger stuff. My favorite trip. Not much colder. Water temp about 46* on up last year.

Well, are you talked into it yet?

Don't worry about the wetsuit / drysuit thing; 46degF isn't really that cold...

:D

Chuck Tribolet:
Yep, I'm on the Nautilus Explorer Saturday. The only reason I didn't go sooner was I
couldn't get a spot on the boat. I got a cancellation a couple of months ago.

1st time? It's going to trip your trigger. We have our spot for 08 and 09. Hard to pass up. Even if I didn't dive, I'd still go on this trip:D See you there.

I think I knew before I asked that I need to get off my *** and do some local diving. It kills me to see my stuff hanging there collecting dust until the next trip to someplace where you can feel your testicals upon exiting the water. I guess one upside to 46 degree water is you can just hang the beer in the water instead of having to buy ice.

On a recent trip to Monterey, standing outside the aquarium on a beautiful day looking out over the bay, I could tell it's pretty spectacular below. Thanks all for the comments.

I have not dove Monterey in a while, but the North Coast is over 50 degrees now. Since it is close and our marine life is very abundant here, I enjoy our local waters. Plus we have a fun group of people to go diving with, that are always willing to get others out. So get out and DIVE!

Beer goes in the cooler with ice! Almost frozen beer is the best.
