Hi guys,

Need some directions here… About two months ago I enrolled into a NAUI course described as “a combined Master Scuba Diver / Divemaster course“. Theoretical instruction seems limited to Powerpoint presentations together with some uninspired lectures. The only written material I have received is “Mastering NAUI Leadership”. I strongly doubt this will be enough to make me pass the DM exam coming up in a couple of weeks. Being a crossover from PADI I am used to being showered in books (not to mention little plastic cards) on every step I take. Can anybody tell me if there exist something as a “required reading list” for NAUI MSD/DM or am I just to much of a bookworm?

NAUI instructors have a great deal of freedom in teaching methods when compared to PADI instructors and are not required to use all of the teaching aids that are available. You can check out the following link for a list of books available.

Have you voiced your concerns to your Instructor?

The DM exam was the easier of the two from what I remember but that was quite a while back :D The "Master Scuba Diver" text is a good one and the Master Diver exam comes from the information in that book.

You need a copy of the Master Diver Text. Your profile doesn't say, but if you're crossing over from a PADI as a DM, you have to pass the Master Diver test. From the website: Divers with evidence of equivalent training and experience may be enrolled provided they pass the NAUI Master Scuba Diver written examination with a minimum score of 75%.
Tell your instructor you want the text, especially if he's not going to teach it... sounds fishy, pardon the pun. ;)
