I like having one smb per diver. Some boats require it for tech dives.
In very long decos it's way easier to hang on the smb, then having to be completely neutral for hour's. Ofc hanging means just very slightly negative,not really "hanging".
You can do the switch with both hands and hold the line with 1 finger. Just be careful not to get a line around first stage of the stages.
Or you can do the rotation with 1 hand. It's possible. Takes more time, but it's doable. Wouldn't prefer that, but when it's drifting fast, it's probably the best choice.
In a normal dive I always give the smb to my buddy. I prefer the easy method in real dives.
Practice dives, maybe with simulated deco, I do it the hard way to practice it.
