Hello. Moving to Houston Feb 8th. Looking to meet up with fellow divers and explore the area. Love lakes, quarries, Gulf, etc as long as it has water in it. Trimix certified. Have approx 200 dives in Lake Jocassee, SC, have assisted in video of Atakullah Lodge @ 300' and captain'd charter boat for instructor the past 3 yrs. Hoping to meet up with some fun and serious divers.
I'm not really crazy about lakes @ 30 to 40'. No problem with cold water. Like to dive all year round.

Rocky

Lake Travis is a scuba divers dream for Central Texas Local diving. You can go from rec limits to tech depths at so many different locations on the lake or with dive boat operations on the lake.

This spot Windy Point Private is described in this link on the web:
Windy Point Park
Windy Point Park

It has easy access to the water, fill station within walking distance and just a great place for divers to gather to enjoy the sport. March April are usually the best visibility of the year for this Lake. It has something like a 50 mile shoreline.

Check it out.

Let's put together a few dives for the weekend, including a night dive. Wreck Alley or Shaker Plant would be interesting to dive at night, and easy to navigate using the lines.

In Texas, there's no difference between a night dive and a dive below 40 feet as far as I can tell. :D

So, we have Lake Travis Scuba committed to running his dive boat operation as necessary for the Texas Swamp Divers all weekend and late into the night, for night dives.

We have another dive shop in Austin interested in sponsoring something like an underwater poker run on Saturday.

Everyone know what an underwater poker run is?

looking for more idea's from the swamp........................................

Its a nav course with playing cards at each station. You stop and grab one card. No going back. Best hand wins.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I will be attending my brothers wedding reception in Austin sometime during the month of August and I was wondering where you would dive at this time. How is the viz and temps?

Lake Travis will be the closest. There are several dive sites to include Windy Point scuba park and Mansfield dam. Lake Travis Scuba runs a charter to dive sites that are not accessible to shore. Owner/operator Robert Weiss makes it an enjoyable charter, Welcome to Lake Travis Scuba.
Take a look at the sticky for Dive Condition Reports for viz and temps from last year.

I'd like to attend. Have never dove Travis yet :)
