Another happy Mosquito user here!

Thanks for your comments yesterday about the Suunto Mosquitto Dive Computer.
I ordered one today.

I have another question : My dive partner had a Dacor Darwin wrist computer and it was defective. It was replaced with a new one, however, he is finding it quite difficult to set up. What is your opinion of this Decor Darwin Dive Computer ?

hrandolph:
I am interested in buying the Suunto Mosquito Dive Computer. Should I purchase this one , or would you recommend another ?

I used my Suunto Mosquito on a 10 day diveing trip to Bonaire, NA, and it worked perfect. I have downloaded the 18 dives with profiles of each dive. I have listed the dive sites. I am still using the original battery that came with it.:

I have my mosquito for 3 years and half and it usually works well, but this year it started to fail.
When I was in Cuba, the mosquito got crazy at last dive and after I got out off the dive, it still keep showing 16m. I ve got a plane and it started to goes up to 11m, but when we landed, it returned to 16m. I reseted the battery and everything returned to ordinary situation.
I dived again with no problems, but 2 months later when I was Diving in Brasil, when I start my safety deco at 4m, the mosquito showed me that I emerged and then entered into error mode for 48h.
Today in my first dive, my mosquito again showed that I emerged, when I am sure I was at least at 3m down. I saw my buddy with another mosquito below and we compared the depth...mine was 3m and his was 6m down...little error!!! Second dive was perfect and we compared again. Mine showed 15m and his 14,8m...who understand those machines??? Maybe time to change?

I love my Mosquito and my VyTek. Would buy both again in a second.

The mandatory ceiling you are getting (not really a deco stop, just a ceiling) happens during a fast ascent made by the computer. Whip your hand up to your face to read it, and you will set it off. Whip your deflator hose up above your head (with the hand that is wearing the computer) and you will set it off. Either of these most often occur near the 20 ft. depth mark, because the computer knows that a fast ascent from this depth is the worst! And conveniently, this is the depth at which you are almost always adjusting your buoyancy AND whipping the computer up in front of your face to read it.

So you have 2 options:
1. Make a slow movement to raiser your deflator above your head or to read your computer.
2. Know what caused it and don't be flustered by the ceiling alarm.

Dive safe and have fun,

I have had my mosquito for several years, and over 200 dives, and it has twice malfunctioned in a way similar to emelotto's description. Both time it was corrected by removing and replacing the battery.

I think, the error is likely to do with salt and/or dirt on the pressure sensor. I now ensure I wash the computer thoroughly with fresh water after each dive.

My main complaint for the Mosquito is the small size may be hard to read with older eyes and under poor-viz conditions. Or even if your contact lens get a bit dry and stop working so well.

I've added a Gekko and now consider that my primary wrist computer. I carry the old Mosquito as a backup.
