Wife and I sold our eon cores and got perdix AI’s after hers locked her out for no reason. And yes it was no reason, she had 4 hours of battery time left, locked her out for 48 hours because of a “low battery.” Sold them the next week.
Suunto computers are notorious for locking the diver out. They also have crazy conservative settings.

Shearwater on the other hand…. Excellent well-earned reputation for no-nonsense operation.

We sent in two eon steels to have their buhlman upgrade done. When we got them back one was fine and the other had a system error message. I took it to LDS and they sent it back to Suunto. We are waiting on their response. I wonder what the failure rate is for the Buhlman upgrade is.
My Eon Steel upgrade went south and Suunto sent me a new Eon Steel Black very quickly.

The teric owners that have had to send their computers back more than once will disagree.

No they won’t. I sent two back for the battery issue way back when. They turned them around in less than a day. No problems since then and I am more than happy with Shearwater. SUUNTO service OTOH…🤮

My Suunto is 23 years old and hasn't failed once.

My 27 year old Suunto's are great. It's the more recent (nitrox supporting) one I have complaints about

One swallow does not make a summer.

I worked at a LDS. I personally sent over 100 SUUNTOs back for service in 18 months. The way that they handled the depth sensor failure was abyssmal.

You might wanna check the screen brightness and if you don't have any transmitter, you might want to close wifi. 14 hours is not bad in my opinion though.

The ONLY way an Eon will lock you out is if you ignore your deco ceiling by 3 mins. Either you have a serious issue and need to be on the surface (thus not going to be diving for 48hrs) Or you're an idiot and deserve the lock out

I've never had a lock out despite on occasion making some "funky" dives The Eon in it RGBM mode has similar conservatism to Shearwater - I've made 44 repetitive dives wearing both Eon and Shearwater and their NDL and Deco times were within 1min of each other all the way through.

My Suunto repair is via Suunto Europe and they've been excellent for the minor teething issues we had with Pod Battery life (tuned out to be counterfeit batteries installed by area distributor - who no longer distribute). 2 x Eons both early models having zero issues with 1800 dives between them

I have 500 dives on my Shearwater. It's okay and does the job but has a few downsides. Id buy another Eon but not another Shearwater (unless something revolutionary happened)

Which algorithm was the EON running and which setting? What GF was the Shearwater running?

What are the downsides of the Shearwater?

Many (most?) rebreathers now use Shearwater. This includes additional pages and displays for specialist rebreather-specific settings such as Revo's scrubber time. It's nice that the Nerd and Petrel have very similar user interfaces; don't need difficulties underwater.
