Im some what new to the diving world...The Suunto D9 is a small yet loaded piece of diving equiptment, is it worth 1500 dollars.
I have nothing to compare it to my this purchase will be my first computer.
I plan on still using a analog device but as for a loggin gcomputer with wireless air intergration bla bla bla. I don't want to get in to the specifics of the dive watch D9 but if you know anything about it please just give me some feedback.

If you like it tell me why.

If you don't compare it to something else.

From my inexperianced eye it looks great. Is it worth $1500.00

Thanks to all that share ....

WELL THEN, it's off to get my popcorn and lawn chair. This is gonna be good.

RU diving multiple gasses? RU planning on wearing this thing as a watch full time? RU ready to spend double on something that is latest/greatest vs. something 1/2 the price that basically does most of the same things?

My Aeris Atmos II does everthing I need it to do, and cost me about $250. I does NOT have hoseless SPG, nor does it calculate my remaining time UW based on air consumption, nor does it have a compass. For those things I have an SPG, a compass, and my brain. I have zero issue with determining gass as most always my NDL is the factor not gass. Most EVERY computer alarms when you are near the NDL, and anyone who dives should NEVER hear that sound unless you 1) push the NDL as planned, or 2) are not paying attention to likely one of the most important things you NEED to pay attention to.

I never use a compass, umm, unless I am using a compass, and for that I have a compass.

I do admit having the SPG on the wrist would be nice. For $1500, well that's a week a COZ. So what would I spend my money on? If you have to ask, you have missed my point.

I plan on using Nitrox I dont plan on using more than that any time soon

as for the watch coment I will only be wearing this when diving

The D9 I believe has an RGBM algorithm with deep stops. This is probably a good thing, but for half the price you could buy a Mares M1 Rgbm computer that also has deep stops. The money you save would go a long way towards buying a decent reg.

Very nice unit but how do you qualify "worth it"?

I have a D9 and have a few dives on it (40) and I think that it is very convenient as all of the info you need is on one screen vs. on multiple screens on the Oceanic Atom. It is just like a big watch and still easy to read. I have never had a transmitter failure although I do have an analog SPG clipped to my bc just in case.

Value is in the eyes of the beholder. There are tons of other options that are cheaper but for convenience, ease of use and form factor it is hard to beat. $1500 is a very high price for a D9. There are cheaper options (online) available that I would check out BEFORE laying out $1500.

HTH,

Adam

I agree that the D9 will get you chicks, beyond that I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. Don't get me wrong, I love gear, but I'm a bit skeptical of new dive computers with tons of new technology and not that much testing behind them. My buddy who has an Atom 1.0 has had it replaced 7 times, yes....7 times. That's just not worth the hassle. I'm sure they'll have most of the bugs worked out someday, but this computer has been out for a couple of years already. D9 is sweet, but not $1500 sweet. I'd spend about $1100 on it at the most, and that's still more than a cpu should cost. I dive with an Oceanic VT Pro and I love it, even though its ugly and big.

Soooooo, if you are a chick and have a D9, will that get you some guys ????? Just wondering if it works the other way around !!! LOL
But seriously, I have a D9, I love it. I wanted the deep stop function, air integrated, compass and small (because I'm a girl !!!!). It is not that small actually, people are now use to it at work but I got a few comments on my watch size (aka not a girl's watch size !!!)
On the down side, I do have a problem since my last trip with the logbook not registering the dives anymore so not all is wonderful. It is going back for exchange and I hope I won't have to do that more than once. I actually wonder how much problem people have been having with it. Is it a fluke or a trend??? Because of this I will also stop using it as a watch as it is probably not the best thing to do with a dive computer anyway (I still love that toy though !!!! and yes it is a toy).
There is many other good computer around for cheaper if money is a concern. A lot of people I dive with have the air Z nitrox (not that cheap but cheaper), not as cute but working well it seems. If money is not a concern, it is a great computer if problems with it are not a trend which I don't know.
