Suffering pain from Scuba Diving. HELP!!

nereas, any good family practitioner should be able to diagnose acute sinusitis and treat it accordingly. Someone not familiar with diving should be able to sit down at the computer and search on sinus barotrauma, and come up with some diagnostic and treatment guidelines. Not every problem needs an ENT doc.

Yeah, it shoulds like sinus barotrauma or reverse squeeze. I have had a lot of problems in the past with this. I would go and see an ENT specialist and see what he/she reccommends. To prevent this I normally use a sinus rinse bottle the morning before a dive and then I take Sudafed and Afrin shortly before the dive.

The allergy season hit me worse this year than ever before! Never had difficulty equalizing until a month ago and suffered a middle ear trauma due to a blocked eustacian tube. It felt like my sinus' and left ear were filled with clay. I saw an ENT and he said all looked fine but reccomended sudafed before a dive and Afrin. Gotta dive! Will you you know how it goes. #1 if its difficult to equalize I'm calling the dive. I'll wait a few months and try again.

What i don't understand, is if it hurt like this on EVERY dive? Why did you keep diving? If I have pain , I stop to dive another day.

I hope you joined DAN before you started diving.

You also need to find a new family doctor now too, since you will be scuba diving a lot, and this should be someone who is trained is scuba medicine. You can call DAN if you are a member and get a list of such physicians in your area.

I have actually met physicians who know nothing about scuba and its related maladies.

Therefore I have concluded that once a person becomes scuba certified they should call DAN and with their referral system completely overhaul their own medical practitioners.

I suppose that could be true, and that even as a deadbeat DAN would still help you with a referral.

I would hope however that every scuba diver is a member of DAN. Anyone who is not is taking a huge gamble that they will never need hyperbaric treatment nor emergency evacuation.

You sound doubtful of my statement! Let me tell you, it is true, and being a deadbeat has no bearing on their ability or desire to give you a referral!

If you got pain while ascending you gotta stop and try to clear until you are low on air or risk ear drum or sinus injury that could end your diving career all togeather.
