Horseshoe Kelp could use another wreck!

Dave

Hey Maxbottom were you at the meeting ?

John

It seems I read somewhere that the USS Sailfin was going to be sunk off Monterey. Is that information wrong or is the decision on who gets it not yet made?

I would love to see a big wreck in the LA area. If the site were chosen carefully, this could be a better dive than the Oriskany. As a sub, it isn't as tall or as wide and could be shallower. I think the flight deck of the Oriskany is at about 140 feet to ensure the deck wouldn't get too shallow if the wrek were to list after a storm.

As I understood the original post, the sub was supposed to be sunk on Jan. 13.

Did that happen?

I think the sub is still in the hands of the US Navy. Permitting and fund raising requires time.

That date was for a meeting to talk about it. There is no date for the actual sinking as far as I know.

No Date or location has been set as of yet. It probably wouldn't be for a while. CS2R has get control of casino nights at the Dive show this year to rise money for this cause. They are working with all the organizations up & down the coast & who ever is ready with a site when they're ready to sink a ship well get it.

Okay, I looked at the email and it said the time was from 10am to 4pm. That made me think it was the sinking cause I thought it was too long for a meeting. At any rate, I'll keep watching the posts!
