I guess I might be in the minority. I want to see the footage. I want to see the five or ten minutes leading up to the incident. I'm not interested in the actual piercing of the body, but I am very interested in what came before.

The family realises that the footage will get out eventually just as they realise that the media is trying to create a whole lot of fear and sensationalism right now. Terri is a strong woman who has been involved in the spotlight for a long time. It seems she also has a strong support system to help her guide the kids through this part and through the stuff that's going to come up in the future.

My biggest negative reaction has been the reports that he was filming this for his daughter's show. No one needed to know that. That he was filming a doco for Disovery would have been enough. To hear that your Dad died while doing something for you can't be very pleasant.

You dont want people to know he was shooting footage for a show, which was a project that would include his daughter, but it is ok to release footage of her dad dying?

The birth may have been shown before and therefore public domain, but the timing for showing it proves tv's mentality towards the public which seems to be but anything on with (fill in the blank) face on it and the couch patatoes will eat it up.

It is the same reasoning I do not listen to any talk shows, believe the one and only side of the story any media device offers. The media, and I mean all media, thinks they are the public watchdog. Any story you get is solely one sided and scripted. Look at how much the media has been qouted in this thread and note how each report is slanted. I can not stand the news shows, they replayed Matt Lower (sp) questioning Mr. Irwin after the feeding incident with his son. That interview had no bearing on Steve's death, and either does the video of the birth of his daughter. (For the record I stood up and applauded Steve Irwin for his honest answers, right, wrong or indiffrent he earned my respect for being a man about it, and I added another demerit for Matt Lower(sp).)

I stand on my orginal statement, I hope they destroy any footage before it can be "leaked" to the public.

If he wanted the footage shown, you would deny him that? Why?

It is my wish that any footage of the incident be burned only after viewed by the people who have to. (the fewer the better).

I never knew the man but I respected his efforts. May he Rest in Peace.

It is fine that you feel that way, but it is already public knowledge that destroying that footage would be directly against Steve's own wishes. He has already stated that if any such incident occured to him, he wants the video of it made public. So understand that if your personal sensitivities are to be respected, it would be in direct conflict with the deceased's own dying wishes.

If Steve wanted to footage released then so be it.

If Terri releases the footage to the media then that is her choice and all would support it.

Personally I think it is tough enough on a wife/two small children to lose their husband/father without it becoming a media circus and without everyone seeing the actual moment he died.

If the kids see it when there ready, so be it. It is their dad and their choice but at the end of the day releasing footage of someone dying to satisfy public curiosity is completely bs to me. I just see it as disrespectful, unless Terri releases it and for some reason if she does then im ok with that. Am I ok if someone releases it that is not Terri or it gets leaked to the media? No im not, I see that as disrespect to the family.
It may not make much sense those feelings but that is just me.

I just do not think it is fair on the kids for everyone to watch their dad dying?

I agree Tracy but in his line of work he may have talked to the family or his producers about it. I'm just saying we should respect whatever he wanted, it's not fair to say not to show it just because we don't want to see it.

tracy - you should know that the Irwins entire life was a media circus and they loved that life

this does NOT mean that the Irwin family owes me or anyone else a dammed thing BUT if they make the decision, thats their choice

the family has seen the footage already and i can only hope it was quick and painless and they can take some comfort from that

I am currently watching Larry king live and they have his Friend, John Stainton, and producer he was on the other boat when he was hit by the ray. he said he will never release the video. kind of contradicts what is being reported about his dieing wish. only time will tell I guess

Their entire life was a media circus, but on top of that, Steve himself is on record on multiple occasions saying if he dies while doing what he does, and the cameras are rolling, he wants the cameras to keep rolling, and he wants the footage released. This is one point he has been quite clear on. There is no guesswork involved in this, except if one thinks he changed his mind in his last moments. From what I know about Steve, he didn't really seem the changing his mind type...
