I know this isn't so much Florida Conch related but as he was an avid diver and passed on a dive, not to mention everyone knew the man and may want to know if they hadn't already, so I thought it important.

He will be sorely missed and I am not too proud to say that I tried to watch every show he was on, even the kids ones. He was a monumental soul and a leader in his path through life. I didn't want to believe the news when I first saw it and it is still kind of sinking in.

I know he has added as much energy in heaven as he had on earth, rest in peace friend. I am saddened by his families personal loss and hope they find the comfort they need in each other and all of those that cared for him.

SYDNEY, Australia (CNN) -- Steve Irwin, the TV presenter known as the "Crocodile Hunter," has died after being stung by a stingray in a marine accident off Australia's north coast.

Media reports say Irwin was snorkeling at Batt Reef, a part of the Great Barrier Reef about 9 miles (about 15 kilometers) from the town of Port Douglas, when the incident happened on Monday morning.

Irwin, 44, was killed by a stingray barb that pierced his chest, according to Cairns police sources.

Unless you are looking for it in the Accident and Incident forum, you may never know it happened.

Thank you for posting the link for the other thread and I hope this one will stay in place so others like me who do not frequent the Accident and Incident forum will be informed. I do frequent the Florida Conch Divers forum and its subforums.

Sad. We always enjoyed watching his shows.

Prayers to his beautiful family, he will be sorely missed

Reports this morning say there is video tape being held by the police that show Steve pulling the barb from his own chest then collapsing and dieing. Just a very sad reminder that in a mishap, any thing protruding from your body as a result of an accident should only be removed by a professional in a clinical setting. In Steve's case it may or may not have saved his life, but he might have had a much better chance.
