"I would hope the video of the accident does not appear on some
tabloid news show in attempt to profit or sensationalize his death."

It has started already some sleezy hollywood tabloib show on national tv (Entertainment Tonight I think) is showing any footage they can find, including video of the birth of thier daughter.

It is my wish that any footage of the incident be burned only after viewed by the people who have to. (the fewer the better).

I never knew the man but I respected his efforts. May he Rest in Peace.

ohm, im not disagreeing with you but that footage of Steve's daughter being born always makes me laugh, when he says "lets name her bindi sue after my favourite dog"

IF the footage goes for sale, and the footage is owned by the production company which the Irwins part owned, i hope they get ZILLIONS for i would guess they would pour the $$$ into the Wildlife Warrior fund he set up years ago but i wouldnt be going out of my way to see it though

RIP StevO, you'll be missed.

Have you noticed that the media keeps referring to this as a stingray "attack?"

Whatever happened in this "freak accident," Mr. Irwin was not attacked by a reclusive ray.:shakehead

That sort of mischaracterization by reporters will only serve to sensationalize the situation, and scare the public. Cry "Wolf?"

At the moment no one is getting the footage as the coroner has it for its inquiry before he decides if there is an in quest.

Their daughters birth was in one of the shows I believe so I dont think they would be bothered by that being shown.

I hope the footage isnt leaked to the media, that is just insulting to Steve and his family.
No child should have their father's death shown on TV for the world to see.

I was flicking through the channels yesterday and glad to see fox news always at its lowest in regards to lack of journalist integrity having stories about how deadly rays are and how they can attack.
It didnt seem to be sensationalised on cnn to the extent fox news was.

I guess I might be in the minority. I want to see the footage. I want to see the five or ten minutes leading up to the incident. I'm not interested in the actual piercing of the body, but I am very interested in what came before.

The family realises that the footage will get out eventually just as they realise that the media is trying to create a whole lot of fear and sensationalism right now. Terri is a strong woman who has been involved in the spotlight for a long time. It seems she also has a strong support system to help her guide the kids through this part and through the stuff that's going to come up in the future.

My biggest negative reaction has been the reports that he was filming this for his daughter's show. No one needed to know that. That he was filming a doco for Disovery would have been enough. To hear that your Dad died while doing something for you can't be very pleasant.

mudchick:
My husband was on the internet tonite when he told me Irwin had died and for 20 minutes I kept saying "That can't be" while he continued to read various news reports to me. Yeah, he was out there a bit, but he brought the world and its animals into our living rooms and showed the importance of conservation to those who may not have paid much attention to it otherwise. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. He will be missed.

I read the article some one posted on the nature of stingray envenomations and the damage done if the torso is penetrated by the barb. Does anyone know if anaphalaxis (sp?) can play a part in such an event if the victim is allergic to a component of the venom?

Absoultely.

Any antigen entering the body has the potential to elicit and anaphylactic response. Anaphylaxis can most certainly cause death. Whether or not this was the case, I cannot say. It was such a horrible accident.
He was quite a contributor....

alicina, on one of our garbage tv shows last night was how "bindi was being groomed to take over" and they were activially discussing a timeline

 what a joke.... i keep thinking about that poor little boy who might not be able to remember his dad in 20 years time
