I recently got a new (XS HP-119) tanks and after few weeks one has thin small patch of rust on the side (I assume because it was laying horizontally in trunk of my car and didn't dry quickly at that spot).

How do I safely remove that small spot?

Use Q20, or any other rust prevention oil and a soft toothbrush.

I hsve never seen Q20. Where can I get it? My tanks is rusting as well.

OSPHO is an acid that will neutralize the rust, then it can be touched up with paint.

Are you sure it's not a stain from the trunk steel rusting?

Try Naval Jelly (phosphoric acid, I believe). It'll take light rust off really well. Clean it, then cover with epoxy paint or ZRC Gavilite (not the spray kind). I'd call XS first though and see about this warranty.

XS guarantees all their tanks for as long as you own it for any exterior rust. You can contact them here, XS Scuba Contact Us

I wish it was that easy. I have a LP 77 I bought in May that shows sings of a lot of rust on the outside. I have called/emailed them like 6 times and every time the emails go back and forth asking whats wrong, then I send them pictures of the tank, then they end all correspondence. Even my LDS had a tough time getting them to take the tank.

I still have the tank and am still trying to get it replaced...

Does your 119 look drab grey instead of shiny? MY LP 77 doesn't appear to be hot dipped. It looks like it was painted instead.

Well considering trunk is padded with some sort of padding I doubt it. And it it is then I have a problem as this is rather new car.
