i am new, (certified today) and i am for sure going to pursue this hobby/sport. i will be diving up here in new england mostly out of cape ann. should i go with steel 80 or steel 100's for tanks?

thanks, derek

Congrats Gurumasta!! Or steel 120's. I have dove with steel 120's and they take a little gettign used to compared to AL80's since they are taller and much heavier (Not a bad thing they just are). After a few dives I became pretty comfortable with a single Steel 120 and bottom time is great. I'm sure the 100's are just slightly smaller. I think they make a 140 now too.

well id say 100's over the 80's
more bottom time, yeah 100's thats the one

If you are going steel, I'd go HP 100 over 80's. More air, about the same size as AL80, and better bouyancy.

If I had it to do over, I'd buy HP Steel 119's. It's a great all around tank with good bouyancy characteristics and more than enough volume for any of the local shore dives. Strap a 30 CF pony to it, and your good for most of the deeper stuff around here (within reason... let's not get crazy).

I think Paul at PG dive still has a few and he had some pretty smoking deals on them recently.

well if you are 5' tall and weigh 100 pounds, then you should try them out first...if you're a big guy, then have at it, big ones always impress the girls anyway

Id go with the 100's. I have some and I end up being lighter when i get in the water than with an 80 because i use less weight. You will also get more air if you don't get a full fill.

Congrats on getting certified!

I have 2 pressed steel HP 100s, and they are great tanks.

I would go for the steel 100s as well. They are a little shorter than an AL80 and of coarse hold more air. My HP 100s are about -1.5# empty which means less weight on the belt or weight intergrated BC. When you look at the price of a steel 80 or 100 their usually with in $20.
