Just curious what people are using as a backup device with their rebreathers and how they set it. Currently with my prism2 I am using a stand alone shearwater predator with no cc connection, I haven't done many deco dives with rb yet, so any pointers on the best way to set a stand alone computer up to stay reasonably close to the main would be appreciated

Ben

If I take the plunge I'll be using a stand alone Petrel to back up the Predator on the Prism2.

I have an integrated shearwater on my meg, but use a stand alone shearwater predator or, more recently, petrel as back up. I find that the stand alone computer tracks the integrated one quite well - the meg holds set point pretty well - and I expect the prism does a decent job as well - and it doesn't seem that the normal variation in O2 pp makes a significent difference in deco times between the integrated and back up computers. I just set the stand alone computer's set point to the controller's setoint. I also use the stand alone predator/petrel auto setpoint change function to match change from low sp 0.7 on the surface to hi 1.0 (for example) at depth. It seems to work well. Some people set the one or other of their computers to a more agressive deco setting to give a quicker bailout option - I just use the same GF settings on both and foloow whichever is more conservative - as I said they give very similar times normally - and of course the GF can be changed during the dive on the petrel or predator if I need to get out of the water sooner than expected.

.....Ditto......

I use a Heinrichs and Weikamp OCTC 2 as my standalone back up computer and use it as described by the two posters above, I was surprised how closely the deco times and CNS track between the CCR integrated computer and the stand alone OSTC.

A Petrel or Predator accompany me on my dives with my evolution. No notable difference between the two computers when set in similar gradient factors. My Ccr deco dives have been small with no trimix... Not sure how close it would be on bigger profiles?

I began with a hardwired and a stand alone Pursuit on my RB. They were always within 2-3 minutes of the same deco readings.

I now have the stand alone one wired in also.

My revo has the RMS predator and I use the petrel as my backup, I keep a saft battery in each of them since the petrel can run on a AA if my controller needs a battery and there isn't a saft available I can just swap in the petrel battery and throw a AA in to replace it.
