So my boyfriend and I are planning a dive in San Diego the 3rd week of March..We were thinking of diving La Jolla cove, and renting gear from the Diving Locker on Balboa Ave. ...Does anyone have any suggestions about locations for beg/int divers? Has anyone rented gear from the diving locker before, or know of a better place to rent gear? I was also wondering if there's anywhere to rinse our gear? I'm pretty familiar with the San Diego area, just not the diving aspect of San Diego. So any suggestions and advice would be sooo much appreciated!!!

Thanks
Alysia

Hi Alysia,

La Jolla Cove and La Jollla Shores are two good spots for diving in SD. The Cove can get some big swells that make entry and exit difficult at times, so check conditions with the onsite lifeguards before trying it. Where the Cove is a shallow water reef and kelp dive, the Shores is a deep canyon dive, although with the recent underwater topography changes, good structure starts around 50' now. Both locations have restroom facilities onsite with outside showers for rinsing gear.

Good luck and have fun!

thanks for the tips! i'm really looking forward to this trip now!

What roughwaterjohn fails to mention is that HE is an outstanding tour guide. I am sure he would love to show you two the local flora and fauna. If he does, perhaps I will join you. Heck, even if he doesn't perhaps I will join you.
